Just back from Keycamp holiday and not very impressed. Are Canvas/Eurocamp any better?

The site was great but the mobile home a bit run down and couriers not overly helpful.

Key amp and eurocamp are the same company these days I think

Never had a problem with reps but we tend to use sites with older reps. I have noticed the larger, family friendly sites tend to have lots of young single reps so the level of service you receive can be highly dependant on how much partying they have been doing :)
As for mobile homes, I have found that shabbiness usually means that the unit is due for renewal. Dirtiness is different and is down to the reps.

Try going straight to the campsite website - in my experience they have better sites and mobile homes than the UK companies. In France anyway, most of the staff on bigish sites (3*+) speak English. I've heard some truly terrible French being spoken by the reps on campsites so I'm not sure how much value they could add.

We haven't had any problems with Keycamp, but I guess cleanliness is down to individual reps. If you expect the accomodation to have been cleaned by an 18 year old you'll be prepared! Sounds like you were unlucky with the accommodation as they are constantly refitting/renewing them as far as I know. As others have said Keycamp and Eurocamp are the same company (well have same parent company). Couriers are employed by the parent company and find out whether they represent Keycamp or Eurocamp when they arrive on site. You can usually book cheaper direct with campsites, although you won't get the same ferry deals, and you don't get access to the kids clubs etc.

I like Siblu the best.

We had a great keycamp mobile home when we went. It seemed brand new and had decking outside. We have our own tent now but I miss the luxury of that chalet!! I think it does depend so we were probably lucky. We went to Siblu another time and had a wooden chalet which was a bit dark and dated but OK, all the other Brits we met had complained and got upgraded to new mobile homes. They were both clean though.

We have been with Canvas, Eurocamp, Siblu, VacanSoleil.

It does depend very much on the site and the couriers and where the company is with its replacement programme.

If you go earlier in the season then our experience is that all MHs will be cleaner than at the height of the season (the companies use a team for the shutting down and opening process). As a general rule the new model MHs will be smarter, cleaner, nicer.

Funnily enough our worst experience was with Siblu with older couriers. Our experience was that they were whingy and lazy. The sister campsite over the road had far more pleasant staff.

I guess the answer is to phone before you book and talk with the booking staff. My experience is that they can be very knowledgeable.

we have just got back from a week in Brittany with Eurocamp and found them to be really good. The reps were young but very helpful and friendly. Our mobile home had been refurb'd and was very comfy. We're going again next year!

tim6587 · 01/08/2012 13:39

I agree with FunnysInLaJardin. It really does depend on the reps. There is nothing wrong with any of the companies other than they may have someone working there who is not very interested in what they are doing. The sites that we have visited have always been good and it is probably that you have just had an unfortunate stay in this case.
Eurocamp and Keycamp are technically the same company but i would not be put off from travelling with either of them again if i were you.
If you do fancy a change i have never been disappointed with canvas holidays

We went, a few years ago, to keycamp site In south of France (grimaud) the mobile home we stayed in was disgusting! It was filthy, the bathroom was foul, I won't go into details! When we tried to find the 18 year old rep (who was actually very sweet, just a terrible cleaner!) he was always out at bars or hungover in his tent!! Luckily we were only there for 5 nights, but I had to go out and buy antibacterial wipes and clean it properly.
The beach was lovely and Port Grimaud was very interesting but it was very noisy at night, the keycamp pitches were right by the bar and entertainment area.
The reason we went with a bigger company was at the time our dd's were 2 and 5 and I wanted the security of a rep who spoke French and would be on hand to help if needed with advice. Ha ha ha! Not worth the bother, seriously!
You can tell by now, I'm sure, we weren't impressed and have never been tempted by keycamp etc type holidays again!
This year we went with flower campings and it was fantastic! We did take our caravan but got to know people in the mobile homes and big canvas tents who said they were immaculate! Smaller sights, and in my opinion much more hospitable and lovely! That said we've only been to one so I guess I can't comment on whole company! Worth a look though x

mummytime · 19/08/2012 10:58

Eurocamp is the same company.
I've tended to like Campus, but their reps weren't quite as helpful as they might have been when we had to take a LO to hospital, and they seem quite young for serious situations.
Going direct with Yelloh! Was quite good and most staff speak English, and we got a luxury chalet for the same price as a mobile home with a UK company.

Mrbojangles1 · 20/08/2012 12:33
