spoiled by the weather

Has anyone had their camping plans spoiled, altered, or even cancelled because of the weather? If you book and pay in advance, are the campgrounds understanding or have you just given up any amount you have paid over? I really don't know what to do. I would love to make plans but don't want to spend a week in the rain!

The campsite I was at last week was very damp with puddles on the pitches, apparently they were ringing customers to check they still wanted to come and offering refunds. TBH there was no way the whole site could be used in the state it was in. I have thoroughly enjoyed my week camping in the rain, it wasn't like it was raining non stop. We didn't book the whole thing in advance but decided to see how we felt after a few days. Having a site with washing and drying facilities really did make it work.

we have had pitches cancelled in the past for wet ground. And also the camping and caravaning club places who just let you decide for yourself when you can't see the pitch for water Hmm that it may be unfit to camp on the arseholes ...I think it depends where you go.

My feeling is, though, that the campsite would have to be unsuitable for camping (ie due to heavy rains over a long period making the ground too muddy) rather than just unfun because of rain to get your deposit back, if you see what I mean.

Spot on sparky - but even then the camping and caravanning club some site owners will still not give you a refund. Even when the pitch is a mudbath and had no grass on it. Hmm Others, generally private sites, are more than willing to cancel/refund/rebook and will even phone to advise you that the site is wet!!
