Anyone braving it this weekend?

The weather's looking iffy, but we're going anyway! Somewhere in Porlock, so only a couple of hours away, never been to the site before. It's this one
Anyone been?
Ice blocks are freezing for the icey-tek, chicken is marinating, lemon drizzle cake is baking and I have sampled this weekend's vodka cocktail and can report it slips down a treat.
So all we need is some sunshine!

Oh, wait...
No. We're not going anywhere because the bastard van won't start! All our bedding will need unpacking and my lovely barbecue treats will have to be grilled.
So peed off I could actually cry.

:( Oh poor you! :( :(

Stase · 29/06/2012 20:17

Thanks for the sympathy Sad
The boys are taking it ok, but me and DH are feeling very despondent. Not sure what's up with the van. Batteries have been tested and are fine, something is making very funny noises. I love this van, but it's nothing but trouble, and could never afford to replace it.
Ho hum, will keep trying...

Oh, what a shame staseSad, hope you get it sorted soon.

flubba · 29/06/2012 21:00

I'd be absolutely gutted too.

pictish · 29/06/2012 21:02

Oh gutter Sad

We're off on Monday for a rainy week in Wales. Can't wait actually! Grin

Stase · 29/06/2012 22:21

Ooh, which bit of rainy Wales?
Me and DH have spent the evening looking at cheap campers that will sleep 5, and even browsing bell tents...
Can't imagine not having Myrtle though Sad

If it makes you feel any better, I am posting from a tent on a remote Scottish island. The wind is howling, rain coming down, there is a damp mist obscuring the beautiful view. Tent is flapping but still water tight. My eldest has developed chickenpox. The other two have had a vomiting bug the first night. Vomit over sleeping bags, pyjamas etc. in fact DD3was sick on my air mattress
I didn't notice in the night and woke to find my fleece covered in vomit. I need to pee but it is a freezing cold walk in the pouring rain to the toilets. Am considering waiting til it gets dark and then going in the grass outside my tent

It is a stunning location. We are meant to be here for a week. But wil probably come home on Sunday as soon as everyone is well enough to travel .

Stase · 29/06/2012 22:37

Thank you I do feel better now! I'm cosy on the sofa with a beer and Quadraphenia! No closer to finding out what's wrong with the van. I sent a message to my local skillsharers via justfortheloveofit.org and a very nice chap had a few suggestions, but nothing working Sad
Vomiting bug in a tent sounds horrendous! I hope everyone has a better night tonight, and some dry weather tomorrow.
Thanks for cheering me up!

Oh my God! Sad that sounds like the worst camping trip ever. SadSad

pictish · 29/06/2012 22:39

Snowdonia.
In the bell tent.

pictish · 29/06/2012 22:41

Aboutlastnight - oh dear - you have my sympathy. I'm a seasoned and enthusiastic camper....but that sounds pretty grim.

Blu · 29/06/2012 23:12

Oooh, no! To both Stase and About.

lisad123 · 02/07/2012 10:52

We have just got back (12am last night) from a very wet and muddy weekend at Glastonbury on worthy farm. Great weekend but field was swimming by second day Sad

Stase · 02/07/2012 10:59

You've got be a toughie if you want to camp in the UK eh? Next trip is Camp Bestival at the end of July, so hoping this awful weather will have sorted itself out a bit. It could be worse though - at least our getting soaked and muddy is optional. Really feeling for those poor flooded out folks today Sad
A man came to take the batteries away this morning. Hopefully that's all it is and not an expensive starter motor replacement!
Had all our camping food for dinner last night, was very tasty! Smile

We are now renting a lovely cosy chalet on mull. It has heating, a roof and indoor toilet. Bliss.

YellowDinosaur · 02/07/2012 20:01

Sorry but I just had a fab weekend wild camping near Newcastle! Possibly daft given the torrential rain and storms on the Thursday but actually the weather wasn't bad at all - bit of drizzle on sat pm but otherwise fine :)
