silly cobb question

I was looking at getting a non - cobb frying pan for my cobb and realised I didn't quite "get " how the accessories worked. Do they sit directly over the hot coals or on top of the basic grill plate? And do you then have to keep the kid on toretain the heat?

I was wondering this too.

They sit directly over the hot coals and fit onto the base bit. You could probably use non Cobb ones as long as they were bigger than the base bit, or put a smaller one onto the basic cooking surface but this would make it harder to move it while things are cooking and I would imagine not so efficient. I wondered this before buying the other bits and pieces as they are not cheap but I reckon worth it.
