Card Games for Rainy Days and Nights

Just got back from a miserable few days in the lakes weather wise, although we still got out and about during the day and had a nice time...

BUT, if I never play another game of Snap or Pairs it will be too soon! Grin

The problem is I don't know how to play any other card games and neither does DH. Help me out please. What games are easy enough for me and suitable for three people including a fairly bright 8 y/o DS? I have vague memories of playing gin rummy when I was a kid but wouldn't know where to start now.

Thanks in advance!

War - for two players,.split the pack then each turn over the top card, whoever gets highest wins, if turn two cards the same it's war; each place a card face down on top of the first, then turn another one over each, the highest of these two wins all six,.very simple!

Crazy eights - deal seven for all, then turn the top card of the pack over, take it in turns to place a card of the same suit on to the pile, if you have an eight you can play this on any suit to change the suit, if you can't go pick up from the deck, winner whoever gets rid of all their cards

,Rummy - deal seven and turn over the tOP card from the deck to make a pile, the object is to get a set of 4 and a set of 3 eg 2,3,4,5 of spades and 3 (or whatever, same number different suits or consecutive numbers same suit) when it's your turn choose 1 from the top of the deck or 1 from the pile and discard .a. card from your hand onto the pile

Thanks everyone! Grin we've started off learning crazy eights tonight, lots of laughter with that one, going to try spoons tomorrow night. DS is delighted! Smile

Spoons is hilarious, with a big group it's really funny to change the ending so the person to get four the same starts doing an action e.g. tapping head (however the sillier the better) as the other players notice they start doing it, the last person to do the action is the loser, (saves the mad fight over the last spoon as well)

sayjay · 12/06/2012 12:38

The mad fight over the last spoon is the best bit! Grin

I second Uno here, and we have a game called bananagrams that comes in a small banana pouch and dh and i get very competitive with it. My dd who is just 9 loves it too.
We take travel size versions of things like Battleships, Connect 4, Cluedo

I have just bought a card game called 'pit' after recommendation on mn. It looks fun, not opened it yet, so hoping mnetters are right that it's good , :)

We play UNO, sevens, monopoly deal and shed.
