Nantcol waterfalls is beautiful. Haven't camped there, but have often been up there on a sunny day and it's a lovely spot for a day trip. There is a stream that you can paddle in, and lovely walks up in the hills. The camp site looks nice - very basic but in a great spot, very remote and quiet.

Nantcol is close-ish to Barmouth for day trips, or you could go down to to Shell Island, or to Harlech beach, Harlech castle and so on. Half way down the hill from Nantcol there is a gorgeous lake as well. This is making me want to be there!

One thing I've often thought though, over years and years of camping on Shell Island nearby - a sunnyish day right on the coast can still be cloudy up on the hills, where Nantcol is. You need a properly clear sunny day to have the weather in the hills as well.

Up the road from Gwern Gof Isaf that is mentioned, someone else has recommended Gwern Gof Uchaf and Garth Farm.

We went to Nantcol last year and loved it. Would highly recommend it.

We were up there a few years ago (bank holiday, didn't get to Shell Island in time) and the drive up there was so scary, that we turned round at the top and went elsewhere!

This was prior to it being re-furbished though. I have to say, it looks lovely now.

We went to Nantcol Waterfalls the year before last and we absolutely loved it. Fabulous campsite.

We went to nantcol last year and are booked in again for august.

We love it, the lane is narrow but if you take it slowly its ok. There were some quite big caravans/camper vans up there when we were there.

The stream is great for the kids, there are rope swings and a pool that is great for little boats or swimming.

It is about 20 minutes in the car to Barmouth and there is plenty to do there.

There were only about 3 showers but they are building new ones for this summer I think, the site was pretty full when we were there but we still didn't queue for long. you buy a shower card so there is enough hot water for everyone.

The family who run the site are really kind I went on my own with 4 kids and felt really welcome. We loved having our campfire in the evening too. The lovely son comes round on his quad bike to sell wood and bbq's each evening. The 3 teen girls I took with me were quite taken with himGrin

If you like proper camping, go for it.

good luckSmile

Oh Nantcol is just heavenly! You will love it.
Very peaceful but fun too with kids splashing about in the river.

The road up to it is fine if you are just taking a tent!
We also have a caravan but I wouldn't want to take it up there!!
That said, many people do.
