We are going to France, before I pay the balance, I want to go to Cornwall

Hi I have payed a £50 deposit to go to France for our main Summer holiday. People around me are now all talking about Cornwall. We have been to France and Cornwall many times. I keep thinking we should be going to 'Cornwall. I love Cornwall, the beautiful sea, all around you, all the lovely places to visit. Gosh these last two days have been awful, I would much rather visit the lovely Cornish fishing villages, but the campsites in France are so much better. My dh is a fisherman, the site has a large lake, and the dc's ages 14 and 12, are at a difficult age, and need the pool with slides (waterpark), table tennis, footy court and the sunny weather !

The difference just for the accomodation is £800 cheaper in Cornwall. I can tell what you are all thinking - Cornwall !

Hmmm....tricky.

My DC wanted to go "somewhere good with no rain and an out door pool and massive water slides. "

We are going to Cornwall because I want to, and I am paying. I am planning on going to France next year, though. (But I say this every year!)

As you've already paid the deposit, I would go to France this year, and Cornwall next. Do you really think you will be able to book anything decent in Cornwall in May???

this is it, I book so far in advance to get the sites that I really want, and the pitch I want. Now we can only get 1 week in Cornwall I would prefer two. With France, I spent ages choosing the site, and the ferries that would really fit into my plans.

I just dont fancy France !!!

£800 cheaper.That's a whole other holiday!!

ChippyMinton · 09/05/2012 20:01

Go to France.
It will be better. Better weather, better food, better toilets (if camping)

And it's easier to ignore other people in a different language.
Harder to ignore all the smug, braying bodenites cluttering narrow lanes in 4x4s (speaking from experience in February - heaven only knows what it's like in August)

OMG moving to Cornwall, you lucky lucky thing. I cant really do both, we are in the north west and it takes us about 8 hours to get there.
Im now searching the brochures thinking 1 week in Cornwall, 1 week in Devon, I dont even like South Devon, North Devon is similar to Cornwall.
Does anyone recommend any sites in Cornwall ? Cause I cant find any availablility, I want Cornwall more.

Go to Finistere for a France-Cornwall hybrid. Lots of sea all around you then.

We can't decide this year so we are going to wait til June or July and then choose between France and somewhere in the UK on a whim. but we like the sorts of campsite that don't book up.

oooggs · 09/05/2012 20:43

I wouldn't want to be camping in Cornwall now!!!!!

Heavy rain and gail force winds at the moment

loubielou31 · 09/05/2012 20:43

Have you booked the ferry crossings? The ones we looked at we £800 so we are going to cornwall because even the cheapest crossing we could find was £450 ish. You will however as all the others have said, struggle to book much now. I booked a fortnight camping a month ago now and only got a pitch on the site I wanted because they'd had a cancellation.
If we could have better afforded it then we would be going to France, I just love alll the gorgeous local foods, and if it rains ALL summer in Cornwall I will be bitterly dissappointed.

purple15 · 09/05/2012 20:51

I have booked everything with Select sites, the ferry, the site and insurance with a £50 deposit. The balance is due shortly.

The Weather is the reason we started to go to France. I got sick of wearing my gortex coat in July.
I have been looking at sites in Cornwall. After the last few posts, I am a bit swayed towards the sunshine !
omg. big decisions.
Personally, I dont think you can beat Cornwall. I think I should Live there, but thats another thread.

France, every time. Bad weather is a downer on any holiday but completely ruins a camping one.
