Hoping to be under canvas again this summer. Friends that we're thinking of going with have suggested Cornwall but we've only camped there pre-children.

Can anyone suggest a family-friendly site on the Plymouth/Looe side?

Don't know that area of Cornwall at all I'm afraid but if you decide to look at North Cornwall (around the Padstow area) I can give you some nice sites! x

Thank-you! I'll maybe suggest it. Nothing is set in stone just yet.

I'm trying to persuade the others to go to the site we used to go to in Stoke Fleming, but apparently, now the toddlers are older, and we have babies too, we need an all-singing-all-dancing type of place.Grin

Again nothing useful in that area, but near Redruth there is a really nice site called Tehidy

North Cornwall recommendations - yes please! Looking for somewhere with a countryside/proper camping feel.

We had a great holiday here last summer. www.littletrevarrack.co.uk/

Immaculately clean, great shower block and fab pool. Nice play area too. Near St Ives.

Right, North Cornwal...
Our favourite site is Berryfields (Porthcothan Bay). It's a small, family run site which doesn't have a website. They limit the number of campers so you're not packed in, and leave a big space in the centre for kids to run around and play in. They have a freezer for ice packs (you're just trusted not to nick other people's); clean showers and loos, and a small cafe on site (Cornish cream teas Smile).

Nearby is Treyarnon Bay Camping; which is a larger field with a couple of portaloos in the middle. The beach is just down the hill and there's a YHA around the corner with a cafe and bar to watch the sunset from. The beaches here are gorgeous - Treyarnon Bay has a huge natural swimming/rock pool (low tide only); and Constantine Bay next door has the best dunes for jumping/rolling/body boarding down! Can get busy here though.

Atlantic View (Porthcothan) and Trethias Farm (Treyarnon) are 2 sites right on the cliff tops - pretty windy I'd imagine but definitely good if you like the wilder side of camping! You can also camp at Old McDonald's Farm. We haven't done this but know that as part of the tariff, the kids can help feed the animals in the mornings.

Mother Ivey's Bay is a lot more expensive but lovely for toddlers. They have a private beach which is really sheltered and safe. They are pretty plush these days but I think still retain that proper camping feel. Harlyn Sands (which is next door) has a playpark, kids club, bar, takeaway etc etc. (I wouldn't stay at Harlyn Sands itself, it can get a bit Butlins-y at peak times, noisy and far too busy.)

Hope some of these help - there are hundreds more in that area but somehow it still retains that wild feel which we love. Enjoy!

This evening I'll take a proper look on my laptop and start emailing these links to the friends we're going with to see what everyone thinks.

We used to stay at Polborder House just outside Looe when Ours were under 5. Its a lovely site but not all singing and dancing.

Not quite all singing and dancing but very nice
