Ok, last time was in the guides 25 years ago.

We have ds who will be 4 in the summer and we want to try it.

How without spending a shed load of cash on stuff? Can you hire?

Like most people the pinch is on financially so this would be good for holidays etc.

My mum used to have a caravan so I know about sites and hook ups and shower blocks etc.

You can hire yurts, etc. For glamping but very expensive. Some sites have wooden "wigwams" for about £30 a night. You'd still need your own sleeping bags, any cooking equipment, mugs, etc.

You might be better off buying a tent. Decathlon do some good ones which aren't too pricey.

Ok. Thanks. Dh now says he wants a caravan!

I am a seasoned camper, and very enthusiastic about anything pertaining to the same.

Try Go Outdoors, as they stock plenty of decent camping gear for very reasonable prices indeed....

here you go

Just remembered we have a membership with them. Thanks! Bought some waterproof shoes last year. Must go back.

Any friends you could borrow a tent and the other expensive stuff from?
Or buy one of the v good value camping packs which include tent, mattresses, sleeping bags etc, and then build up.

caravans are expensive...
Tent itself won't need to cost much (but sleeping bags, cooking stuff etc can).
We bought a tent/bedding in end-of-summer sales. Got a lot of it half-price.
Don't get a massive tent if you are just trying it out.
Avoid sites with loads of amenities unless you will use them (we look only for toilets and showers).
