Hi am looking for our next tent as last one blew away in the night! (Its a long story and im still pretty pissded at dh about it. Wont go into details here)
We do a lot of camping from may - oct and often leave tent up in our field for summer holls.
So any recomendations welcomed. We are fam of 5, two girls who want their own space if poss, and a toddler whos still in bed with me and dh.

We had a big 8 man tent with two bedrooms and a big living area ... Want something similar but not so big and heavy and exhaustingly complex to put up.

Budget upto £1000 bell tents? Canvass? Help!

We've got a Gelert Horizon 8. You can have 4 separate "bedrooms" - you can fit a double air-mattress in each bedroom (but nothing else!). There are two small separate bedrooms and one large bedroom which can be split in half by hanging a room separater thingy (sorry, can't think what it's called). Lovely great big living area, and we also splashed out and got the porch last year, makes a huge difference!

No idea how much it cost, but pretty sure it was under £500. Fairly easy to put up too - we're getting faster every time we do it! HTH

polycotton will last longer..... i like the layout on this
or you could go for a second hand canvas frame tent? (heavy though)

I have ordered a 5m Bell Tent from Canvas and cast. it is more expensive than other brands but the canvas is heavier and it looks good quality. There are five of us. We stayed in one last year on an island in the Inner Hebrides and it withstood a tremendous storm.

I liked the fact that it is airy, you can roll up the sides and be cool in hot weather, the high roof gives a sense of space. You can also put a stove in it to heat the place and make it nice and cosy in colder weather. It takes 10 mins to put up.

Down side is that bell tents can get untidy very quickly so it's important to have some storage. It's also very large and heavy to transport so trekking across a field with it is a bit of an ordeal!

If you are planning on pitching and then leaving your tent up for a longish period of time then I would go with a canvas tent and the waterproofness of plastic tents deteriorates in uv light.

Outwell now do 100% cotton tents but they are £££. Cabanon, Obelink, De Waard all do beautiful long lasting canvas tents but again you will be paying for the high quality and weight of the canvas. A cheaper option is to get a classic cabanon (or raclet or sunncamp) frame tent on e-bay. Some of the bigger ones have three bedrooms.
Canvas tents are big, bulky and heavy, the big downside, but they are super easy to put up and won't blow away wants to know the story of the old tent.

Plenty of Bell tent threads on here if you are drawn to that kind of tent. Soul Pad seems v popular, you can get bedroom inners but they kind of ruin that lovely spacious vibe you get inside.

anyone mentioned a 5m soulpad yet. We love ours

We have an Outwell Bearlake 6. Fantastic tent. Easy to put up and lots of room inside.
Have had it for a few years now and it is certainly worth the money invested.
