About to buy a from Bell tent- tell me about their inner

Pretty please Grin

I like it because it divides into 2 rooms, each a quarter of the floor space. Dp is dubious because he thinks it will be too tight a fit for our double airbed in one quarter.

What is the general consensus?

It will be dp, myself, and the 2 dd's in the tent, and then dss and ds in a little tent (smelly boys)

And recommend me a portable toilet!!!! I have to pack everything in the bongo around the 4 kids (and dog) so cannot be large

What size bell tent?

If 4m (which is what we have), dp is right, it would be way too small. We camp with only 1ds, but love the feeling of openness. Do you actually need a divider?

we're looking at the 5m, as we'd need the space for wet weather. dds are soon to be 6 and 4, ds's are soon to be 9 and 8.

Ah, 5m perfect. Wish we'd gone for that, really. I think a couple of other campers on here with 5m tents have dividers, so hopefully you'll get more helpful replies tomorrow. :)

No idea about toilet btw, the closest I've got is a shewee, and I still haven't used that 2 years later! [whimp]

We have a 5m bell and a quarter inner divider. Tbh I don't really like it, it spoils the open space of the tent and to my (glampy) eye makes it look odd. A half inner may well look better!

However, it is v. useful for stashing stuff in (like the portaloo) and DD loved having a separate area (which she claimed for herself during our last break) to disappear into to play when it was wet. It really helped keep the tent tidy too, but, as I said, it made it feel a bit cramped (although realistically it wasn't) having this saggy thing in one corner and, for me, spoiled the whole point of a bell tent.

We didn't put beds into it, but the remaining back quarter of the tent just about fitted our 3 SIMs in - when we used airbeds with it, we had to push one of the beds further down as the curve of the tent meant there was no room for it to be level with the others, if that makes sense - 2 airbeds should fit comfortably.

Re. loos - we have a kampa khazi. It is ridiculously mahoosive so if we're packing light (ish) we only take the inner lidded bucket. However, the whole monstrous thing is almost impossible to tip over, which for me (clumsy) is a big plus!

I have the 5m an an inner. As far as I'm aware the inner doesn't spilt into two rooms (unless this is a new design)

Whilst I agree you may feel it ruins the overall look the advantages far outweighs any negatives

You can separate the sleeping area so that kids don't go in and Bounce on the beds and it's another reminder shoes/boots off before you get tithe sleeping area

A but more privacy for when getting changed or having an afternoon snooze

It cuts down on the area to be warmed up at night time

We have camped without and it was perfectly fine and was more spacious, however I prefer it with.

needanewname · 17/01/2012 14:46

If for some reason you do go for the 4m, personally I wouldn't recommend it and secondly, def do not get inner, there will not be enough room!

fireandlife · 17/01/2012 17:58

We have 5 m bell tent and the the inner. Ours can be divided into two rooms by rolling a central piece of dividing fabric down. Each room feels really spacious . We can fit a double mattress in each and there is still lots of room left over in each room. You definitely need the 5 m though. Ours Canvas and Cast but I imagine they must be pretty similar.

Readyisknitting · 17/01/2012 22:18

Will deffo not be getting a 4m, as worse case we would have to fit all 4 kids in! Many thanks though, as we now agree an inner is needed, if for nothing else so the dds can get to sleep and-we-can-drink-wine
