campsite within 2 hours of london for BIG KNEES UP

can anyone recommend a campsite/ field with facilities, within 2 hours of london where we can get a load of our friends and family and have a really brilliant family party (and a fire) to celebrate a 21st anniversary next year? Loads of kids of varying ages, some pensioners, ravers, buddhists.... we have the will - we just need a WAY! Grin

Wowo - though you have to pay for parking now.

Though neither will allow stereos they're fairly quiet sites.

Theres another one near Bodium Castle, they don't seem to mind noise! Lovely walk along the river to the pub too, fires allowed, good loos and showers with washing up facilities too.

I live near a nice pub based campsite, which is fairly easy going, its called 'the strangers home, in Bradfield, near Manningtree. Its lovely, drinks on tap, and live music every friday night. Its about an hour from Lakeside, straight down the A12. Its in quite a nice area, (the tendring peninsula) and you can walk along the beach of the estuary.

There is a really good campsite actually in London - The Dulwich Scouts campsite - its near some woods, you can have fires and has proper flushable loos, its surrounded by trees and you really wouldn't know you were in London. Its a great place to go if you want get a large group together, especially when some members of the group don't want to travel too far (I think they only do group bookings). Oh and its cheap!

We were at Debden House Centre at the week end. Its near to Epping. It was a wedding reception/camping get together bash. We had a huge field for 11 tents and plenty of space for cars that turned up for the evening do. It is surrounded by woods which is kiddie heaven, you can have enormous fires and we had music that didn't bother the other fields. Great place. And for those softies that don't want to camp there are rooms that can be rented by the night. Oh and a fish and chip shop down the road.

Just to say, the one needanewname mentions near Bodiam is Park Farm. It is great for big gatherings and quite often you can organise with them to stay in the back field, which is generally not open for pitching. We had a 40th party there with a marquee and it was great. There was a bit of an issue with electricity for the band we had but it worked out in the end and if you don't need that, you should have no problem.

They have tightened up in recent years on noise late at night but I think it should still be possible to have a big gathering like you are proposing (we had big group camps there without any problem this year) and they have no problem with fires and will come round in the early evening and sell you wood.

thank you all!!! Sorry for the absence of posting, it's been a bit hectic round here recently and blu - thanks - about 40 -70 I would have thought and exclusive use would be preferable. x
