Gawd, the minimalists will kill us.....

It was Someone Else's idea, all right?

Carry on where you left off, be it owls, bins, sharks, tins of vodka, karaoke etc. [grain]

six cables found so far... none of which fit the camera....

YellowDinosaur · 23/08/2011 21:03

Jetli pmsl at 'trying to fashion 2 pirate costumes out of fuck all' Grin[grain] that sounds like me!!! The site we went to in Norhumberland was pretty basic - a field really with a shower block. Reviews on ukcampsite slagged offthe shower block but I thought it was fine. We've also been to Springhill Farm which is a bit more organised (no nazis though) and has a kids play area. I plan to check out more in due course and will keep you posted!

brambles sorry to hear your dad is poorly. Hope he gets better soon x Inbetweeners camping episode is fab - we have all episodes on dvd! Haven't got round to seeing the film yet - must do soon!

Seashells glad you had a quiet day at work today! One of my cats was hyperthyroid last year and has subsequently had a thyroidectomy and is much better. He lost a lot of weight before it was picked up which is all good as he was very very fat! Much more healthy now.

lovecat hope you manage to find your cable! We have a similar tangle ina drawer in dh's bike room (sounds very posh - basically a small study what he has a bike on a turbo trainer!)

lost your camping trip sounds fun! Sausages are always fab (apart from when they are attached to German men in saunas of course!!) but double yummy when camping and eaten outside. Can't believe you cooked for so many - respect!!!

Well the exciting news from here is that I finally made the nutella mug cake and it is amazing!!! Can't remember who posted it but its great. Probably not so good for my waistline to have such a yummy quick recipe but never mind!!!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 23/08/2011 21:21

Lovecat-try under the bed? Dh has a "box of useful cables" Hmm more like a bag of snakes-I can never find anything in it, and even if I do, I can't get it out it's so tangled! Under bed seems to be my "tucking away" spot whilst vacuuming so things often hide there...

northender · 23/08/2011 21:42

Hellooooo! My first post on this thread. Am now safely installed back at home after a week with sil, so back on here regularly now. My mind is boggling at the thought of camping and stoves and chimneys and axesGrin. Somewhat beyond my relatively small scale arrangements. Our final trip for the year is going to be to a site in North Staffs to meet up with some friends for a night or two in mid September. This would seem a good time to think about some heat source but not involving chimneys and stoves! What would be the best thing to get as fires on the ground aren't allowed? Can you get fire buckets that double up as bbqs? This has never been a consideration before as we've up to now been fair weather summer campers but are getting more daring now!

WeesaD · 23/08/2011 21:50

Thanks girls for the suggestion, going to a camping club rally this weekend, but no hook up or showers.....Shock lol

ReshapeWhileDamp · 23/08/2011 21:59

Our stray cables seem to live in kitchen drawers or in the kitchen cupboard. They shouldn't be kept together though - they breed. Hmm

DH is at a conference all week until we go off to our festival on friday morning. Since the campsite opens (the other side of the country!) at 10am and it's then a free-for-all, I want us to leave as early as we can, which means packing the car on thursday, which means I'm doing it on my own while making sure DS1 doesn't poo on the sofa and DS2 doesn't concuss himself, because of DH's conference. Hmph.

Have run out of money to buy mad last minute camping extras, which is just as well! Ahhh, I'm sure I can find a Blacks in Shrewsbury if I desperately need waterproof trousers because it rains all weekend...

YellowDinosaur · 23/08/2011 22:49

northender I've seen talk of these rebel grills on here and they are on my wish list (along with lots of similar cooking gadgets!) Maybe work for you?

Reshape good luck getting packed up on your own! I don't actually mind that - I quite like seeing how I can fit everything into little nooks and crannies so my boot is like a tardis! Mind you, my boys are older than yours so can be bribed with chocolate or the square babysitter play together while i get it done.

I'd forgotten when I posted earlier but ds1 had a FAB day today. The roads are being resurfaced around us and one of the guys let him get into the digger, sit on his lap and operate the drill. Then he arranged for his mates doing the surfacing to let him ride in their truck too. He had the biggest smile I have ever seen and was over the moon! Thank heavens for a triumph of common sense and a sense of fun triumphing over health and safety gone mad and paedo hysteria!

MisSalLaneous · 23/08/2011 23:23

Lovecat, back of the sofa?

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 24/08/2011 13:13

anyone been to Budle bay site in Northumbrland?

reshape, which festie?

MisSalLaneous · 24/08/2011 14:23

Had a "fed up of work" day, and as no-one else in my team in, I thought f-it and took half day leave. Currently sitting in Japanese with chilli fried rice and a beer. This is SO odd, I haven't had a slow lunch on my own in years.

Btw, Hoxton has quite the arty crowd, don't they? Ten mins walk from my work (I'm hanging around for hair appointment), but a different world. Luckily I'm not wearing a suit as I suspect a suit might spontaneously combust in this weird world of men with actual hairdos and rolled up skinnies!

What is everyone else up to today?

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 24/08/2011 14:36

I'm working, well, I'm reading an article on radiology eating for my last client. I'm tired out though and sitting is not helping the yawning!!

No crazy haired cool guys here though! It's more surfer dude in the under 30s ( Blush I missed my road turning this morning admiring one of the lifeguards on his way to work Grin )

So, my childminder reckons ds1 may have nits. I'm horrified-what can I do?!!

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 24/08/2011 14:55

Eating=waiting. Well actually I'm eating too, but thanks to whatever typo I just did my phone helpfully made that sentence non sensical! Enjoy your leisurely lunch!

MisSalLaneous · 24/08/2011 15:12

Ha, eating for your last client sounds ever so considerate. Hmm, so surfer dudes, you say? Lucky you. Honestly, you should see this crowd. One guy with a pashmina (nope, not the scruffy scarf thing, an actual pashmina) just walked past. Not sure whether more concerned over his clothes or the risk of heatstroke.

Nits. I've been terrified of ds coming home from nursery with it, but so far so lucky. I used to get them when small, and then the agony of having to sit still for a wash with nuclear stuff and hours under a nit comb. One of the parents never cared, so it inevitably spread again during swimming and gym. My head itches just thinking about it! Good luck and let me know your tips for when it hits us eventually. I think go for the chemicals to kill and then a drop of teatree to normal shampoo to annoy any potential returnees, but actually that's just random guess.

lovecat · 24/08/2011 15:27

Ooh, MisSal, do we work near each other? I'm just off Spitalfields Market... watching the Hoxton Twats at lunchtime is v. amusing :)

Re. nits - another MNer once recommended something called Nitmix, which I've only ever found online, completely natural, both a 'get the hideous things out of the hair' and then a bottle of essential oils you mix with a spray bottle of water as a repellant. DD has never had a recurrence since I started using it and there's one kid in her class who is always crawling... poor thing :(

I have found the 'connect directly to printer' cable for the camera, but not the camera to pc one... gaah!

MisSalLaneous · 24/08/2011 15:35

Hmm, might keep that Nitmix in stock if only available online. Fingers crossed it works for you SeaShells.

Lovecat, not worlds apart - I work just outside Old Street tube. I've only been once, but got highlights from a tiny salon called Hoxton Salon which I really liked, so reckoned it would cheer me up. The fact that they keep bringing you Kir royales whilst they (organic, so slow) colour developes has nothing to do with it. Oh Nonono, really.

SeaShellsInTheMoonlight · 24/08/2011 15:36

Hmmm, I shall go on a hunt for nit stuff then. I'm not confinced. I had a good look this morning and could only find dandruff and sand , nothing that looked like the photos online-plus he doesn't scratch at home. Hmmm, I'll keep looking I hate the thought of them!! No idea where thy could have come from either...

northender · 24/08/2011 15:39

Early finish for me on a Wednesday, kids at holiday club and don't want picking up until 5. So instead of catching up on all the post-holiday house stuff that needs doing, I'm wasting time on hereGrin.
Hedrin's what worked for our nit outbreak a few years ago. I think we got it free from Boots as they do some prescription service without seeing a GP so as it was for the dc it was free. Smothers the nits rather than poisoning iirc.

F1lthym1ndedvixen · 24/08/2011 16:12

have finished work, picked up 1 dc and waiting for the other to come home. am debating baking and contemplating an empty weekend, where most of our good friends are away and we are doing nowt . [glum]

YellowDinosaur · 24/08/2011 16:22

Well I've finished work early (again Blush) too but envious of your leisurely lunch and hair cut with kir royales! I'm home with the boys, my mum and dad and granny who are visiting. About to go and trial pitch my new Argos Outwell rip off tent in the lounge though so thats exciting!

Really wish I could make the MN BH camp this weekend. Looks amazing. Mum and Dad and Granny here till Sat am though and then too far to come to be back on Mon. Boo hiss. Will have to sort something out for next year!

Funtimewincies · 24/08/2011 16:24

We've had the 'trying to find 11E school shoes for ds1' marathon trek today. Supermarket/M&S/BHS ones are too wide so have had to fork out £34 for a 4 year old's shoes at Clarkes Shock and had to traipse around 3 Clarkes shops to find them too.

Shaved heads, trackie trousers and hoodies and 25 year old men on BMXs are the order of the day round my way - classy Grin.

YellowDinosaur · 24/08/2011 17:03

Glad the mission was succesful in the end funtime! Gin is definately called for after that mission!

Well my Argos knockoff outwell fusion 400 is FAB. Went up in literally about 10 secs (would need about 5 mins to peg it in which I wasn't doing in my lounge [grain] and about 5 mins to dismantle it (again without peg removal) although I was HEAVILY reliant on the youtube vid so would need more practice before using it in real life without the computer! Its great. Loads of space in the bedroom (more than enough for me and 2 boys although it would be cosy with dh in as well). Living area not enormous but plenty big enough to store stuff in. SIG has a wierd netting arrangement around the bedroom section - is this normal? Never had a SIG before so nothing to compare it to and can see this would aid ventilation although potentially also let in water and small bugs...

Pretty sure its a keeper though!

muchostinky · 24/08/2011 17:22

yellow glad the tent is a keeper, was such a bargain!

funtime my four year old has size 13 feet and sometimes they are a nightmare - have his school shoes already thankfully, so will just need to find him some plimsolls for PE thankfully.

I am a bit jealous of all your finishing early at work days - I am currently waiting to go back to Uni and am a bit bored, not long now though! [grain]

Funtimewincies · 24/08/2011 17:34

Blimey mucho, hope that he's a more sensible width Shock. We have to get Doodles pumps with velco, so another tenner there

muchostinky · 24/08/2011 17:43

We are lucky funtime and he can wear any bog standard shoes from Asda or whatever, so not so bad. He was only 4 in June though so I dread when he is older and has the feet of a clown! Hmm

YellowDinosaur · 24/08/2011 19:46

So I have just managed to pitch and pack up the tent twice without relying on the video! All good! The packing process is much easier than I was anticipating - I had expected at least 45 mins on first attempt with lots of swearing Grin I am sure if would be a mare in the wind but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!
