Where for children's waterproofs?

Looking for waterproof jackets for my children - want them to be a bit more substantial than "cagool" type jackets but not full on anoraks / ski coats. Difficulty is that they're 5 and 6 and growing all the time so don't want to spend too much. Can anyone recommend any brands to choose / any shops to look at?

Many thanks

We went to Go Outdoors recently and they had good ones for £25. But then I went to the counter and didn't have a current membership card, didn't fancy paying the extra fiver and decided against it.

So the next day I went to Millets and got a perfectly decent pair for a tenner.

Car Boot Sales! i found brilliant outdoors wear - unused - at a big car boot.

I like Raindrops - there waterproofs are substantial but very soft and flexible but they might be more than you want to pay I guess:

My very little DS got a Regatta all-in-one (not padded, just waterproof) from Ebay for about 12-15 quid. I'm pretty sure they do them in all children's sizes Smile

I really rate these Kiba Rainsuits. Good service & price, great quality, seem to last well. I got one for my DS last year and will certainly get another when he grows out of the current one.

MisSalLaneous · 18/07/2011 22:11

Elka suits are excellent. Yes, they are a little more expensive, but they last so long. Ds's is adjustable (size: 3 year old), so will last until he is at least 4 (from 2.5 years). Completely waterproof but soft, so doesn't have that plastic sound.

My DC all have Regatta, they are very good and not very expensive.

Got a good jacket in Milletts about 10 days ago in their summer sale for £7.49 for my 6 yo ds. Didn't have much choice though and it was the last one in his size. If you've got time to look on eBay or in car boot sales you can get some posh ones at good prices.

CaurnieBred · 18/07/2011 22:20

I use the Regatta Outlet store for DD. The jackets and trousers are great.

We've got Ocean suits from waterproofworld.co.uk (they are Scandinavian made like the Kiba and Elka suits) and we've been really pleased with the suits and the good service. The Scandinavian rain suits are really waterproof, but comfortable too.

We got a good double jacket - a fleece with a cagoul that goes over the top - from Mountain Warehouse store in the sale for about £20. It is really three coats in one.

Also Jojo Maman do a very nice fleece lined anorak in lots of different colours, with matching waterproof dungaree type trousers.

Mandy21 · 19/07/2011 13:23

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think JoJo and some of the raindrops styles only go up to age 5 or thereabouts but will get googling!

Thank you!

Keela Simpson jackets are fantastic and have excellent reviews on outdoorsy type websites (can't remember which ones). You can get them from Amazon (about the cheapest place when we were buying). Buy an age more than your actual child's age. www.amazon.co.uk/Keela-Simpson-Advance-Jacket-Navy/dp/B002DPUF00/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1311097249&sr=8-14

Decathlon? Online site is rubbish for searching for children clothes but they do sell waterproof separates.

Mum2Fergus · 09/10/2013 18:16

Can't do links but google Rain Shine.co.uk I get all DS outdoor and swimming stuff from there

iwantanafternoonnap · 13/10/2013 20:49

I get my sons from lidl as they have fleecy bits in both jacket and trousers. They are cheap and fab.
