Just from browsing I have seen that you can run them off of charcoal briquettes too.

We use both charcoal briquettes and cobblestones (not at the same time though. Wink

Charcoal briquettes are cheaper and it's easy enough to buy a bag when you reach a destination. They do take about 20 mins though before you can start cooking. Cobblestones are handy to have for a day trip- on the beach for example or if you need a bit more speed- they're ready after 5 minutes.

Briquettes most of the time. So easy to light with a half a firelighter too. there is a real knack to lighting the cobb stones and they are way too expensive.

We've found the cobblestones really easy to use. So quick.

Having a lot more trouble getting the briquettes to really get going....think it must be something we're doing wrong!!

I just bought a cobb from the French site and they recommend using a kind of lighter gel (like liquid fire-lighters?) to get the briquettes going - they reckon they are ready to cook on in 5 minutes with that method.

No cobblestones over here unfortunately.

used charcoal for the first time in may. just stuck some firelighters underneath and they burnt a treat. SO much cheaper thean the cobblestones (although you have to hang about a bit longer to cook on them).
