what uk campsite would you recommend for 2 week stay (tin ent) this summer?

ok, asked about all bells and whistles ones and worked out they are few and far between! So where would you go in england/wales for a 2 week family holiday? I'm reasonably flexible (not scotland, too far) and only big requirement is decent shower! would love to see where you recommend - this will be our last holiday before eldest goes off to Uni this year so do want something great.

Wilksworth Caravan Park in Wimborne, Dorset is lovely. I haven't been there in high season, but the showers are lovely. there was underfloor heating in there. that was a revelation to me. We didn't have good weather and it was lovely. The showers had a code to put in and the handles were up high so that young children couldn't get in there on their own which meant they were always very clean. They also had the squeegee thing in there like they have in France so you could clean up after yourself. There was free soap/handwash/ handcream and free hairdryers. It had an outdoor pool which we did use, but which was pretty cold, but as I say, we didn't go in high season.

There is also an unlicensed cafe and a small shop. It's situated very conveniently near lots of lovely places to visit, too, but I would have been quite happy to stay on the site for days at a time (we only went for a weekend). You can look on ukcampsite for reviews (can't do links, sorry).

South Penquite Farm on Bodmin moor. Excellent site. None of the bells and whistles of big sites, but the showers and toilets are free, all made from recycled materials, and clean (so long as you avoid the duck poo, it's an organic farm :) )
We had a fantastic week there last year and would happily go back every weekend if it wasn't 8 hours away!

Fires allowed, caravans and dogs not allowed. No shop as such on site, but you can buy burgers, sausages and fire wood, also cakes which the youngest son is making according to the blog.

No good if you want to be able to walk to a beach, but it's central enough for you to get to lots of places in Cornwall within a short drive.

waveney river centre in suffolk lovely, been going for years, they have last year redone all their shower blocks and now have rooms with everything in them toliet sink shower all in one room. out in the middle of no where but lovely views of country side and river, close by car to places to visit, really peaceful, local pub, cafe, shop and swimming pool on site, lovely lovely oh just lovely i wont to go now!!!!

Hollands Wood, New Forest. Great showers, lovely clean facilities. Walking distance (1mile) to Brockenhurst village for loads of shops & supplies. Bike hire on site if you book in advance, close to loads of NForest places & days out. Ponies wander past your tent....

I loved Hollands wood and have been about 3 times over the space of 30 years

Last time was about 4 years ago and dd2 was 8 and she had a ball. We had bikes to cycle the cycle routes aroudn the forest - but be warned they are not an easy ride on single and the maps are more than usefless so expect to get lost as several families did!

There is no electric hook ups and the office will charge your mobile phone for a small fee. I had 12 volt so had lights. it was lovley not having a phone tbh.

dd2 wanted to stay on the campsite and play all day if she could so we spent very little money.

but there are plenty of attractions and the boat to the IoW, you can walk to the train station from the campsite and pay for train ride and boat all in one for a day trip.

There is a lido at the station stop where you get off to get the boat to the IoW which we didn't go to but looked good for a day trip.

We did also go to bourmouth for a day trip on the beach.

if you do decide to go park up at the back of the campsite and that way you are as far from the road as you can be which means less noise from traffic.

The Forest Holidays site in Beddgelert is lovely. I know some Forest Holidays sites aren't that nice (Forest of Dean site over half term was nowhere near as nice) but Beddgelert is lovely. Not too big, shop on site, toilets are clean, showers are free. The site is surrounded by countryside but you are only about a 10 minute walk from the village. Lots to do in the area, you are not far from Snowdon and only about 5 miles from Porthmadog.

We do frequent long weekends there (went at Easter, going again in July) and always want to stay longer.
