I was just wondering whether the inner tents have a specific use (apart from creating a separate sleeping area? Do they keep the warmth in more?

It does mean that there is less space to heat, also it means that you can close the bedroom area of so it is out of bounds to children who like to jump on beds! and you can keep it a little bit cleaner - no shoes or wet gear allowed in the inner tent

Warmth
Keep bugs out
Keeps sleeping area private
Keeps tent tidy
If you don't have a SIG, less likely to touch the outer when sleeping.
