Where to get cheap second hand tent?

We've been asked to go camping for 1 night in July. We've never camped as a family before (although DH has done a lot alone and with a friend) and we honestly don't know if it's something we'll be doing more of or not! Thought we'd pick up a cheap 4-berth tent on Ebay, but the second-hand ones seem to go for not much less than you can pick up a cheap new one for. Any tips, O Seasoned Campers?!

Can't you borrow one? Most people seem to have a tent stuffed in the loft somewhere - thought they'd give camping a try, but didn't take to it etc. I'm sure if you ask around, someone will have one you could use.

Or if you wait until nearer the time, there are usually loads of special offers on new tents, you could probably pick up a basic one for £50 or so, which would be easier than finding one on ebay and trying to collect or arrange for it to be shipped.

I have one here, an older one, had a repair in it years ago (but done by my dad, a scout leader ) I have a picture somewhere but you can have it for cost of a courier if it would be any good to you? Easy enough to puit up but not a quick start pop up one or anything! PM me if you like

Thing is thought Bluddy - if we only ever end up going for one night, £50 is a lot money . . . All the ones I saw secondhand on Gumtree were several hundred! If we knew we'd go more, then it would be fine. I just wondered if there was some special place for selling old tents . . .
