Lidl sleeping mats, yes/no?

The self inflating sleeping mats are back, are they any good?
Are they a reasonable alternative to a big fat air bed?

Someone answer, we have a Lidl about four km away. If they are any good I'll go and buy some (assuming they are stocked here). If not, DPs are coming next week. I'll add to their burden.

We have Aldi ones which I would guess are the same. They are great - much warmer underneath than an airbed. The same thickness mats in camping shops are much more expensive. I say go for it!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/05/2011 09:19

Thanks Bilbo. I'll be calling in at Lidl later on.

mathsgeek · 05/05/2011 11:27

I've gone and picked up 2 today for the DC's although I'll wait for DH to like them before I get them out of the packet. They are heavier and don't pack as small as our old thermarests, but then they are also 5cm thick whereas our thermarests are 3cm. I certainly think for the price they are excellent value, but I wouldn't want to backpack with them.

Also Lidl has got a few other camping bits in- chairs/lanterns etc.

stinkypinky · 05/05/2011 19:20

They are ok - worth the money. I got enough to line the pod completely as it stops the cold coming through in the gaps and helps with rolling sleepers - better than my expensive 10cm one actually.

serin · 07/05/2011 19:10

How much are they?

Bumperlicioso · 07/05/2011 19:28

Ooh, just lidl? Any in aldi? Looking for that exact thing now dd1 is out of a travel cot. How much?

thisisyesterday · 07/05/2011 20:08

they're £12.99 iirc!

Bumperlicioso · 08/05/2011 15:47

Ok, I've bought 3, but they are not very self inflating. They seem to just be rolls of foam. What am I missing?

thisisyesterday · 08/05/2011 21:35

leave them for a while, they will inflate. or give a few puffs of air with your mouth

dobby2001 · 09/05/2011 11:52

Sorry only just seen this thread. I have them and i bloody love em! Grin They do puff up lovely although when not used for a while of new, may need a few blows to get them to the depth you want.

I find them lovely and comfy and i paid £2 more when I got mine 3 years ago.

LidlbyLidl · 10/05/2011 10:50

Hello, are they better than normal airbeds? I'm so camping old school but thinking of upgrading if it's worth it?

(ps like my new and strangely appropriate name? )

kreecherlivesupstairs · 10/05/2011 12:58

Good name. Sadly Lidl in Antwerp don't have them, but I am coming to Manc for a couple of days next week. I'll check out the availability there.

dobby2001 · 10/05/2011 18:52

They were on offer last week so sadly may have all gone, depending on how many folks know how good they are. Lidl they are much better than airbeds. They are a denser foam - think like memory foam only firmer. You dont need a pump,, you just twist open the valves and sling them in the bedroom pods whilst you get on with sorting out the rest of the pitch. when you are ready to sort out sleeping arrangements the mats will have puffed up - not as much as airbeds but softer than those cheap foam mats you get if backpacking/guides etc. Close the valves to keep air in and thats it. I have never had one "deflat" and because there is more foam than air you are much warmer.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/05/2011 13:56

None left in North Norfolk either. Ho Hum, it's back to the camping beds which are uncomfortable in a way you'd think impossible.

Grumpla · 11/05/2011 19:22

I love mine, slept on them for about six weeks last summer. Have a pretty dodgy back but found it very comfy.

DH didn't find his so comfy but then he does weigh 16 stone and sleeps on his front.

dobby2001 · 13/05/2011 21:54

If anyone is near Beckenham (Kent/s.london) they had six in there tonight Smile

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/05/2011 16:31

Wow, popped into local Lidl, just on the off chance that they might have some left and they had loads.

Praying that they will be more comfy than an airbed, I slept really badly last year, my hip was terrible, hoping these will help.

Wondering if I should have got two for the kids as well.

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2011 16:36

Wildy! helloo, haven't seen you about in an age.

Used the Forge Steel this w/e and it always makes me think of you.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 17/05/2011 16:41

Slubberdegullion · 17/05/2011 16:52
