Last time we were out camping I was 4 months pregnant, we did half-talk about it last summer when DS was 7-9 months old but he was waking a lot at night so ditched that idea for fear of being a nuisance to other campers. He's now 18 months and mostly sleeps 8.30-8 (might wake once or twice if I'm not in bed, we co-sleep). I'm really itching to go camping for DH's birthday in late June, DS will be 20,5 months then) but DH is not convinced.

Thing is, DH runs a business and can never, never, never plan a holiday so camping at short notice is our only chance of going ANYWHERE. In the 5 years we've been together we were away 4 times for 3 days, 4, 3 and - hallelujah - a whole eleven days visiting my family abroad (1st time I took him to my home country and it cost me several months of domestics :()

My thinking is, bc DS really only ever goes ballistic if he wakes up and I'm not there AND I don't come to him quickly enough, I think he should be fine with all of us in the tent together, especially after a day full of impressions? The longest we could go for is 3 days/2 nights, what do you people reckon?

blackberry wood is the site I'm thinking of, it's hugely popular so I'll have to book soon... does anyone know if they're ok with noisy kids?

My first trip camping since I had kids and I had DD1 who was 17months and DD2 who was 6 weeks old! And it was fine! They are now 2 and 3 and we go 2-3times a year and never have issues, and mine are not the best sleepers at the best of times. The fresh air etc tires them out. We always go to Haven and similar places though so there are bars/soft play/swimming pool etc all on site but depends what sort of holiday you want!

I would go for it!

I've heard great things about Blackberry Wood from people with small kids.

I first took DD camping at just turned 2. It was fine. We went several times that summer actually & had her variously on the floor beside me or in a travel cot.

thanks for that, I'm pretty sure he'd be fine just need to persuade DH now!
Blackberry Wood's all booked for fri+sat through to November, but there are still a few sun+mon+tues left which suits us as DH can't normally go anywhere till Sat afternoon anyway
