Camping virgin - Help!

Hello :)

Long story short, my parents have offered us their lovely, 3 bedroom tent, plus all the mod cons to go with it, for a holiday anytime we like :)

Have never camped before, have DC's of 2 and 4 years old.

Can anyone recommend me any sites in Cornwall? Do you pay a flat rate or is it per night? Do all sites have electricity hook ups?

Is it really much cheaper than say, a caravan rental for a week?

Any pitfalls we need to be aware of?

REALLY love the idea, but want to go in with my eyes ope, IYSWIM.

TIA :)

Normally a fee per night, electric is extra, Check out www.ukcampsite.co.uk/ for loads good reviews and site details for cornwall. Generally North coast windy but good beachs. South coast more sheltered. Its alot cheaper than caravan hire if its in season, but out of school holidays you can get some bargin caravan breaks on the big sites.
The kids will love it, but pick somewhere that good for rainy day activities as nothing worse being stuck in a wet tent.
Avoid sloopy ground for a better nights sleep! Headtorchs for adults and windup torches for kids are good. Enjoy yourselves :o

Definitely make sure you can put the tent up before you get there. Have a practice in the garden or local park first. We like to find places we want to visit first and then find a site nearby.

Check with the site owner about electric hook-ups as you might need to pre-book or arrive early (first come, first served).

Might be worth having a short break nearby first just to get the hang of it. We did and it was reassuring that we could pack up and come home if it wasn't us (or the weather was rubbish).

You'll want lots of warm clothing even in summer for the evenings/nights. Have a brilliant time.

Second Purple having a go at a nearby campsite first to make sure you know how it goes up, what stuff you really need, actually all of Purple's post.

Would just say, take a list with you and amend/add to it on your trial run.
