can anyone recommend anywhere to get a camper van. we've seen some that are soooooooo expensive. We are happy to do some work to it and make 'it mine' but want to ensure it's solid and good 'runner'

My husband bought a normal VW transporter van and then we have just left it this week to be converted. It has a second row of seats for the kids and windows 2nd row back too. Rest of it is a normal van. We use it as our regular car.
That way we can get it done gradually.
Just getting an awning rail, pop up roof with bed & insulation & electrics done & planning on taking it to France this summer.

DH did a lot of research to ensure we bought the right sort of van in the first place as we always planned to convert it.

Gumtree? E bay?
VW campervans are expensive though compared to other campervans but they hold their value.
They are very trendy at the momnet so its supply and demand pushing up prices.

Have you thought about other makes?

We got lucky on e-bay.
There's also the ads in the back of mags like Volksworld.
And worth going around the VW shows and festivals.

I have a VW camper van. Have you thought about what type you want? At first I thought I wanted a late Bay (T2) until I went to see some and realised that I could get a T25 which is slightly bigger and also cheaper. More reliable as its 1980s RATHER THAN 1970S ANd most of htem tend to be water cooled ratehr than air cooled. Maybe doesn't look quite as cool but they're also easier to drive.

They are great, I think I have a pic of mine in my profile photos. Mine's a high top but there are plenty of tin tops or pop ups about.

I got mine from Gumtree. I'd be careful of ebay, there are some terrible vans on there as well as a lot of scams where there is no van. Are you confident you can spot one with poor bodywork - don't be taken in by a fresh paint job, it could look fab and be terrible underneath. Bodywork is more important than engine condition.

Look on some of the forums at the for sale sections. Club80-90 is hte main T25 forum and then there are forums like Volkszone for T2s.

Vanfest (usually early September)in Malvern usually has loads for sale as well as spare parts etc . You see some beautiful ones there Envy

We went with the DC a few times when we had a Beetle

Sorry to hijack, but we are looking for a VW Caravelle. Anyone know of any sites other than ebay, autotrader or T4 Forums?

Thanks
