Camping in the Alps

We are thinking about taking the tent to the Alps this summer. Any recommendations for campsites, small, spacious, nice views and quiet?

Which ones? French, Italian or Swiss?

Don't mind!

We stayed at this site near Villard de Lans a few years ago, when we went to see a couple of the Tour de France mountain stages. It is in the Vercors national park. Quite basic really - no pool or anything like that. Clean loos, pizza's from the takeaway were nice. There was an Intermarche about 10 or 15 minutes away in the car. The views were stunning, and it felt like just breathing in the air was doing you good IYSWIM. Lovely area. Be prepared to be woken early by nearby cows with stonking great cow bells on. Have a good look on a detailed map though. It was one of those journeys where the last 5 miles took aaaaages as you are travelling up, up, into the mountains on tight windy roads with hair-pin bends. Not scary roads but we were knackered & the fact the last 5 miles seemed to take another 45 minutes was miserable Wink worth it when we got there though.

Actually, I wouldn't call the pitches spacious exactly, but we were there for the Tour so maybe we were a bit more rammed in than normal, given how busy it was... HTH
