North Yorkshire campsite recommendations?

Hi - have finally convinced DP that he will enjoy camping, so we've bought an Outwell 4-man tent, various bits of kit as recommended on various threads on here, and the plan is to do several weekends/long weekends this year, with a view to longer next year if we all enjoy it.

Can anybody recommend family friendly sites in the North Yorkshire/Yorkshire Dales areas as these are within a 2 hour drive, which is about as far as we'd like to go jusst for weekends initially.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sleningford Watermill near Masham is lovely; really shallow river for paddling etc, but I'd be wary with very young children though.

I've not stayed there, but friends of ours really rate howgill lodge I like the picnic tables at each tent pitch.

Thanks LD, will have a look at both. Smile

That second one does look nice LacksDaisies - will remember that!

We've been here a couple of times and it's in a great riverside location. We fancy going to masons this summer.

How about Robin Hoods Bay? There's a couple of lovely sites there.

lovely, quiet, great location & lots of walking in the area Smile

oh, just seen LD mentioned it too (I only looked at your first link, sorry!)

we have been there a lot, it's brilliant for kids, & it's tiered so people aren't on top of each other

In the bottom field there is a football pitch iirc

Another wote for Howgill lodge. Lovely campsite near great pubs and beautiful countryside. We've had fab hols here in our tent when the kids were little. Though you have to know, you dont say Appletreewick (where the pub is) its Aptwick. Say it right and you get a free beer :D

We like Golden Square Caravan and Camping www.goldensquarecaravanpark.com
this is in the North Yorkshire moors close to Helmsley. Great facilities for children with two outdoor play areas and a good shop. Again it's tiered in separate fields.

Thanks for all your replies - will definitely have a look at all of these.

DP loves the Helmsley area, so that looks like a very good bet.
