We're off to buy a bell tent in a couple of weeks time and just wondered if anyone's actually been there, what it was like, where did you stay and any other tips / advice.

DH can't believe we're doing it, neither can I Grin

Oh how exciting! We've been, only really had an hour or so there, so I spent the bulk of it walking in and out of the various tents they have (still drooling over the Tripstein tent, although we decided on a bell in the end). We slept somewhere on the way back to London, but have decided that when if we go again, we'll stay somewhere closer so that we can spend more time there. (This was officially Operation Bell tent!) I think there are a lot of camp sites / parks around, so I wonder if a google search would lead to anything with some of those wooden lodge places? Random search I just did in Winterswijk has this.

Thanks MisSal. This is also an operation bell tent with a bit of lets get away from the children, but its only for one night so thought we'd treat ourselves to a hotel. Will be a nightmare not being able to use it though til next year!

What was the journey like, we're thinking of euro tunnel over there and then drive have a look around then come back the nex day with the tent, cheese and loads of wine - well its nearly christmas!

Hmm Needanewname, that's the way we did it too (including a 2-year old though!), and I have to admit it's a bit of a journey. It's almost on the German border. We were shattered really - only really kept from the edge by the thought of fabulous new tent!

Any chance you could add another day? That would have made it a more fun trip, and is probably how we'll do it next time.

We're leaving after school drop off on the friday so will hopefully be there mid afternoon and then coming back saturday, not sure if I could get someone to have the girls for 2 nights!!!

Oh well, I'll just have to keeping thinking of all those lovely camping holidays next year!

I've looked it up on line and apparently its only 4 hours from Calais or do I have that completely wrong?!

Ah no, I've prob got that wrong as I usually get sidetracked for coffee / chocolates as soon as I hit mainland Europe! I'm sure you'll have a fab time - I'm very jealous!

WOW - what a place. Absolutely enormous.

The journey there took forever, the roads in Belgium and Holland were gridlocked but coming home it was realy easy and we have out tent!!!!! So excited.

It took 20 mins to get up and is soooooo lovely I want to go camping now!!!!

For anyone thats interested, they're bringing out the emperor with a ZIG and innertents in Feb!

Hey Needanewname, just saw your update! Fabulous! It really is amazing, I will have to do another trip there before next year's camping season.

Needanewname · 12/11/2010 14:20

I know, we didn;t have long enough there as the traffic and weather the day before was horrendous - wish we'd stayed for 2 nights now!!

Tehy are bringing out the emporer (they call it something different in Obelink) with a ZIG and inner tents in Feb - looked beautiful (if slightly Zippo circus like!)
