Tell me about your lanterns please!

My camping kit is almost perfect but this summer, I still didn't feel we had the lighting right. We have a big tent (Bear Lake 6) and currently have a bog standard battery light which doesn't really do the job at all well.

What would you all recommend?

All I can recommend is that you DON'T buy the eco-friendly wind-up ones. The instructions that you wind-up for a minutes and get 25 minutes of light is NOT true. Or rather, it is true, but it isn't strong enough light for you to be able to read even if you are holding the lamp over the page...

We have UFO shaped led's they are really good got ours from aldi only about £4 cheaper than other places give off great light, but would probably need 2 in a big tent.

All our best lights are random LED type ones that we've picked up in pound shops over the last couple of years.

We have a big donut one too that we hang from our central pole. Lights the whole tent, and the batteries seem to last for ever. I'm sure we got that one from Poundland.

Thanks for the tip about the eco ones - I shall avoid them...

We have a big tent like that. We use a no-messing four-D-Cell Coleman lamp (hung from the ceiling) and then head torches if reading. I don't think you can really light a space that big unless you have hook-up. I'd say get a few of those LED lights if you are going for them as one isn't enough.

People have recommended rechargeable LED worklights also but I haven't tried one.
