After a succesful trial trip to the Gower, we are hoping to go camping to South of France with our own tent in September. Can anyone recommend a site which is near beach? We have toddler and baby and don't want anywhere too commercial.

Not sure which sites allow you to take your own tent - presumably most? But, we used a site called VacanSoleil recently when we wnet to the south of France.

Can also recommend Freh=jus area. It was lovely there and we would definitely go back.

We've stayed at Les Prairies de la mer at Port Grimaud, which is just round the bay from St Tropez. It's a 2 mins walk from the beach and you can walk into Port Grimaud which is a lovely wee village with cafes and boats and a market at least twice a week.

There's a toddlers play place (covered), shop and restaurant on site.

We hired a mobile home, but I presume you can take tents.

Tassis, What was the campsite like. The website for Keycamps says it's lively and noisy, which obviously puts me off a bit. Was that your experience? Did you book directly?

Go to SW France, a place called Archachon and there is a campssite called Camping du Pyla, right on the beach, well on Europes largest sand dune, Dune de Pyla. Will try and do a link.
Totally uncommercial. 5 star campsite.

Right can't find the link but there are loads of reviews etc, just type Pyla Camping or Dune du Pyla into google, there's loads.

Hi not quite the South of France but we went to the Vendee with a 20m old and 5 year old and booked directly with the campsite Le littoral, you can see it on the Keycamp website, very nice site, lovely pool. £400.00 for two weeks!! Port d'Albret in the south is lovely but a long drive with the little ones.

We went through keycamp and went very early in the season (start of May) so it wasn't particualrly noisy. The disco was pretty loud on Fri and Sat nights but I think stopped at midnight.

Otherwise the campsite had good facilities and we loved the fact that it was easy walking distance to both the beach and the village of Port Grimaud. Grimaud is a few km drive away and is a gorgeous medieval vialge with winding streets and a ruined castle that you can walk round. THere's a lovely kid's play park near the castle.

There's a supermarket 5 mins drive from the campsite.

We had a blast and loved the area, but I think we'd choose a campsite with a pool next time.

We took a cruise from Port Grimaud to St Tropez which was great!
