Hello, me again.

1st time camping next week, just me and my dd (6). We're only going for a few nights just need a simple tent, that's not going to leak and is fairly easy to put up. Must be light ish as I'll be carrying our stuff as we are going without the car.

Any ideas please?

Starbuck - sorry, only just seen this and you might be away by now but if you get a smallish lightweight tent then consider getting a lightweight tarp and poles so you can set up a little sitting/cooking area away from the tent. We go camping out of backpacks (2 adults, two kids) and the tarp makes all the difference (though maybe that's cause we tend to go to fairly basic places with no facilities). Mine is really light (can stuff it in a rucksack pocket) plus the two poles slide down the side of my rucksack). I'm guessing you're not taking furniture so a small ground sheet/waterproof rug is fab for sitting on under it whatever the weather. Again this should fold up really small.

The other thing is to look really closely at the weight of your tent - the difference in weights is incredible. Some really smallish tents weigh a tonne so check the weights carefully and you'll find one that you're able to carry easily.

If you're already off - report back and tell us how you got on. :) It's so hard to get car-less camping info - but it is definitely possible and so satisfying (insert smug emoticon here...:) )
