Camping a portable DVD's

Hi

Just bought ASDA's own portable DVD player to take camping mainly for keeping the kids occupied/quiet when they rise at 6am (on our practice weekend, my dd, bless her, came in to us and said "mummy, the birds are singing too noisily").

The battery life has only 2.5 hours and we hav have just discovered that you can't charge the in-built battery with the car charger (that's what I thought it would be for - bunging in for a few hours while we drive to a day out and it would be re-charged for the next day). But it appears not - its literally for watching whilst in the car, plugging in to the car charger rather than using the in-built battery.

Is there something you can do about this? Any gadget you can get to help or do I have to plead with the campsite owner to plug the DVD somewhere while we are out for the day once or twice during the week...?

Anyone else got this problem - thanks.

Has your pitch got a socket? Some of them do, you then have to pay to hire an extension cord to use it.

just checking re the car charger that you are switching the player off to charge it? i don't think you can charge and use it at the same time.

haven't charged it yet but reading the instructions it stated that you cannot charge the battery using the car charger...

You could buy an inverter from Maplins for £20. Plugs into the ciggy lighter of the car and has a socket on the other end so you can use the plug attachment/mains lead on the DVD player into that to charge it up.

We've got an inverter for ours. It's mostly used for the electric coolbox, as the DC only watch the DVD in the car on the way to S France, but in an emergency we know it's there. It was used in England during a very wet long weekend.

We got an invertor from Maplin this afternoon for £30 - worth every penny if it gives us an extra 30 mins in bed in the morning when camping and a good wind down when going to bed.

Thanks for the pointer stripey and ILJJ - Aitch, u gonna get one?
