Tell me about Cadac cooking

Having just come back from our hols, have noticed loads of people with the Cadac thing going on.

OK totally ignorant about them, what can you cook on them? Is it a BBQ/ camping cooker in one?

They seem quite expensive so are they worth it?

We noticed the same. Check this out.

shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=portable+bbq+gas&_sacat=0&_odkw=portable+bbq+gas&_osacat= 0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Sorry not good with links.

we love ours, don't always take all the bits if just having a short break, and it's good for using in the garden too. i would recommend!

CerealOffender · 05/08/2010 20:57

they come with a recipe book! you can just plain cook, or bbq, or roast a chicken! i love ours

Oblomov · 05/08/2010 21:11

It is the best bbq around at the moment. we went camping and lots of people had one. dh did loads of research online and they all said the same. then he spoke to a couple of people in the camping trade, and they said so too. we have only just bought one. used it in the garden and dh said it was good. we are going camping in a weeks time, for 2 weeks, so i'll let you know how we get on !!

it has griddle, wok thing for paella. all sorts of extra bits. collapses down. and clips together really easily.

CerealOffender · 05/08/2010 21:11

the bag it comes in is shite though

MisSalLaneous · 05/08/2010 21:40

Yes, the zip in our bag broke relatively quickly. In their defence, dh sent them an email and a couple of days later we got a new one through the post.

OonaghBhuna · 05/08/2010 22:33

I notice that they are all different prices which one would you recommend for camping?

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 10/08/2010 09:05

ok i am bumping as see in go outdoors sale they are reduced here - so are they a gas stove as well or not eg can we brew up on it with our whistley kettle or is it for cooking - am tempted.

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 10/08/2010 09:08

ok also i need to know how small they pack and we have lots of small gas bottle of our mini single stove burner job that are thread top - would they fit this cadac system or do you need a huge bottle of gaz like the picture shows with the regulator and does that come with it too?

DrZeus · 10/08/2010 09:13

We DH got one and we used it last week when we were away in our caravan. We had brilliant BBQs - cooked my bit of salmon to perfection (although I'm sure DH will take the credit, rather than the CADAC Grin!). He is very impressed with the set up. Not sure where he got it from, was on the internet somewhere and there was a deal on.
Off again tomorrow so will no doubt be BBQing for tea/brekkie/lunch etc etc!

MisSalLaneous · 10/08/2010 19:58

nappyzone, it's big (and heavy) and you have to take the big bottle and regulator, unfortunately. I would say that is the only drawback. You can use it as a gas stove, yes. I love that you can do so many things with it - grill, stirfry, boil, bake etc.

Oohnaghbuna, sorry I missed your question earlier. From what I remember when we decided on ours, some of the smaller ones didn't get as good results. So if you have the space, I'd recommend a Carri Chef Deluxe Combo, it's great and we use it often, not just on holiday. Most definitely a car camping kind of thing though.

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 10/08/2010 20:06

hmmm thats perhaps just killed it for me then!

welshdeb · 10/08/2010 20:08

Love ours although we only tnd to use the griddle plate. It cooks steaks and chicken really well and its a real bonus when its hot and cooking in caravan when its hot is a real no no.

MisSalLaneous · 10/08/2010 20:13

Sorry, didn't want to put you off, as it really is a great product, but you can't get around the fact that it is rather big. Well, not like a house, of course, but you know what I mean...

Any chance that you could see one in real life?

nappyzoneloveschinesefood · 10/08/2010 20:41

yeak i will probs nip to go outdoors, seen regulator and pipe isnt included so i will have to find out costage of that. Our last opportunity to go away while were both off is next week Mon and Tue and dh has his op on sat so not sure if we will get there if hes moaning.
