I need to know if it is true that you don't get some many insects if you have a fire. I seem to attract insects and even when completly coeverd up and using insect repellent I still get bitten. Had about twenty last camping trip.
My sister wants to camp near a stream in wales and I know I am going to be eaten alive. Just wondering whether to book a site which allows campfires.

Ineed2- in sympathy I too get bitten irrespective of layers/temperature - reckon they go through my clothes! from experience seemed less when camped near a fire but would take citronella candle as well I keep between my feet ! expensive candle big candle in tin eg £7 from waitrose as desperate last year does seem to work better than cheap and lots of tea lights which i have also tried....

Thanx 3rd will try the candles, when the kids are in bed. My youngest would be guaranteed to fall on one or knock one over.
