...that men have to wear tight, speedo-style swimming trunks in the pool?
I was just perusing some reviews on tripadviser and saw a mention of this alarming rule...we've already booked and DH won't be happy - he's a baggy swimshorts man. I always saw tiny lycra 'swim briefs' as strictly for ageing over-tanned germans.. am I going to have to go out and buy a pair

Obviously, they are also for proper athlete-type swimmers, they have an excuse..

Yes, it's true - most French campsites are the same

DH doesn't like Speedo's either, but I got him a tight-black-shorts style pair and he looks OK in them

BTW, be prepared to either
a) queue from 9ish to get a sunlounger by the pool
b) take your own chairs in

The pool complex is amazing, but there are nowhere near enough loungers, plus there are lots of Germans / Dutch on the site!

All french sites are the same I'm afraid
Men and boys have to wear speedos. Board shorts are for the beach.

piratecat · 17/07/2010 22:51

how bizarre, being told what swimwear you can wear. altho you can get rather nice speedo shorts style ones, think will young

NoahAndTheWhale · 17/07/2010 22:54

When we've been to campsites in France, DH has never worn Speedo type swimming trunks and has never had a problem.

bigTillyMint · 18/07/2010 09:41

Piratecat, if only all the dads looked even remotely like Will Young

I think they do it to stop boys coming in wearing sandy / muddy board shorts that they have been playing in and making the pool dirty.

Lucycat · 18/07/2010 11:30

That's exactly it BigTillyMint - it's to do with hygiene I expect.
and they aren't usually tiny ones that most men wear either - more shorts type.

piratecat · 18/07/2010 13:08

ahhh 'Will Young in speedos'

how, 'pleasant' a thought that is.

WarrenPeace · 18/07/2010 13:27

god hte english are so uptight about the trunk thing
i think its GOOD for men to have to experience the revealing costumes that are the norm for women

Sorry I thought there were no replies and forgot about this thread

Thanks for the replies.

We have stayed in other french campsites and it wasn't an issue; this place does go on about priding themselves on hygiene though, so think Tillymint has hit the nail on the head.

WarrenPeace, I guess the Irish are too
Although to be fair to DH, I doubt he'll be that bothered, I was just surprised and thought it a funny rule. And will have to get some new trunks (I feel a bit responsible because I chose the campsite)
