French Campsite Advice!

Hi there,

Thinking about starting out camping in France (prob next year as DC2 due next week) - used to go as a child to smallish campsites that only had sites for tents/caravans/motorhomes that people brought themselves and a pool/shop.

Would be looking to do something similar but am unsure of the best way to find such places these days, I am sure my dad had some caping book but that was about 25 years ago - this will be our first camping with us being the adults! Don't think we want to land anywhere too large or with too many activity things (such as Eurocamp, etc) until the DC are old enough to appreciate (DS 3.5 yo)....

Can anyone suggest where we could start lookign please? Would like to stay around the Vendee and possibly also Brittany area.

Many Thanks :-)

Ukcampsite web site has a list for France with reviews and links to the campsite's web pages.

Chose one in Normandy last year and picked one for the vendee this year based on reviews and talking to the owner. La buzliere - fingers crossed! The Normandy site was great and just as described.

Here's the another website:

www.campingfrance.com/

They have around 11,000 to choose from!

I hope you have a great time.

I can recommend this one - and they have fabulous ready-made tents with all mod cons except running water, which are great for kids.

Thanks all - will take a look at those links :-)

Have just realised that I think the ones I stayed at as a child were municipal ones, not big Eurocamp style ones.

Thanks again

Also this: ACSI though am now off to explore that campingfrance.com link which looks even more user friendly. Wonder if they use the same database?

Alan Rogers is also available online or as a paperback guide. (try Amazon).

Re: municipal sites - the big question to anyone who's used them, what are the loos like???! Am still scarred by the horrors lurking behind some of the doors at the autoroute service. It's not that I mind squat-style - it's just that too many users seem to be a lousy shot.
