South Devon.

Seen River Dart is too strict and now out of season. ANy other safe estuary areas. I like the look of Slapton Sands and Teigmouth but are these good for safe canoeing?

We have a caravan so any suitable site.

Any recommendations for the future? Lewrenny in S Wales is great but want to be more down to Cornwall and Devon.

Slapton sands might be a bit bracing for kayaking, the beach is steep and shelving. You can kayak at Teignmouth and at places on the Teign Estuary.
We camped and kayaked at Bigbury recently. do you need a campsite right by a kayaking river? we kayak a lot in S Devon and also camp a lot in the area, there are lots of places to kayak around the coast. Around the Salcombe area is good, including Thurleston and Hope.

The Exe estuary is also good for kayaking (from Exmouth you can go on the sea or on the "duck pond" by the station which is part of the estuary. or you can kayak in Exeter from the quays. But the Exe is a bit more built up, so not so ideal for a holiday.

We had a great holiday down in Cornwall and went to BF Adventure where we had a canoeing taster session. It was a good basic intro and gave the kids a nice intro to the sport in a safe enviroment.

They are quite confident kids and were happy going out with us later in the holiday (forget the name now, but there was a shallow river which come out onto a beach - it was perfect).

Good luck and have fun!
