I was severly anaemic earlier this year and have now recovered after having blood transfusion and irion infusions. I have two ovarian cysts on one ovary a 5cm and 7cm and other ovary 3cm and 5cm that will monitored but not heard anything from gynae clinic yet. CA125 count normal and had ultrasound that shows they are cysts. I take iron every day
I have since put a stone and half on since treatment started and weight is going up and up.. no change in diet or exercise infact I been trying to walk more
Can iron / transfusions / supplements cause weight gain or is it something to do with ovary cysts? Late 40s perimenopause?

Neither iron nor cysts can cause weight gain by themselves, as they cannot cause fat to be created from nothing. In order to gain fat you have to be consuming an excess of calories. A cyst can increase your weight slightly if it grows very large but we are talking a few pounds at the most and that would be a pretty large cyst. If you're in Peri then your appetite has probably increased and your muscle mass may have decreased which lowers your daily calorie needs meaning it's easier to eat an excess of calories without realising it. I don't know if the iron supplements could be increasing your appetite too?
