I want to cry!

I asked the husband if he wouldn't mind cooking dinner as I have been on my feet all day.
I just went out there to tell him how much oil to use and he has drenched the vegetables in oil!
I have been doing so well, I am only in my third week counting everything. I'm only losing 1lb a week.
I feel he's just made me put that 3lb on in one dinner.

Dab it off with kitchen paper before you eat it?
I feel your pain though, when I was on my weight loss journey I took control and cooked, weighed/portioned everything I ate myself.
You won’t instantly gain weight with one meal though-honestly. Just reduce something extra tomorrow so it evens out.

Would he normally put that much oil on though, or do you think he is purposely sabotaging your diet?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 05/07/2025 18:22

Why are any of you cooking veg in oil? Is it roasted? Surely you just steam it?

equally, if someone tried to specify the amount of oil I could use to cook food then they could cook their own food. You want that level of control, knock yourself out. Don’t micromanage my cooking to that extent.

SilenceInside · 05/07/2025 18:23

I’d eat less of them and try to mop the oil off as the PP said, and maybe supplement with something else if possible? Sliced tomato maybe? One meal isn’t going to make you put 3 pounds on though, and shouldn’t be enough to derail you.

Was it thoughtless/careless on his part or do you think it was more deliberate?

Smoothout · 05/07/2025 18:43

Just don’t eat the veg op
it’s not hard
quickly throw in some broccoli in to booking water or the steamer

come on… where there’s a will there’s a way

Littletreefrog · 05/07/2025 18:50

The food is easily sorted, don't eat the veg or quickly boil/steam some other veg.

The husband is the problem. Is he being useless or is he deliberately sabotaging your weight loss?

mathanxiety · 05/07/2025 19:48

What method of cooking veg requires oil?

Roasted

Don’t be too strict with counting, will led to failure. Enjoy someone cooking for you, and get back to it tomorrow

Pineapplewaves · 05/07/2025 19:55

You said you went to tell him how much oil to use and you were too late so it sounds like he didn’t know. Just put the vegetables onto some kitchen towel and soak all the oil off. It’s a one off, you can get back on track tomorrow. Could you go and buy a bottle of spray oil and explain to your husband that from now on you’d like him to use that.

Alternatively give your husband all the vegetables and microwave yourself some vegetables.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 05/07/2025 20:08

It's fine, you can just adjust a bit tomorrow to make up for it. I'm calorie counting too and losing very slowly (thanks perimenopause) so I know it feels like an uphill battle but an occasional whoops is fine..

Vegetables roasted in a good oil are DELICIOUS. For those who seem surprised about roasted veggies. Carrots especially.

Mumof1andacat · 05/07/2025 20:21

Dap of the oil, eat slightly less of them and just carry on as you were.

Whoyoutakingto · 05/07/2025 20:47

If you have an air fryer, put a small amount of olive oil in a bowl, with carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, garlic granules, onion salt, black pepper and paprika. Mix veg in bowl, add to air fryer and cook for 15-20 mins really nice low calorie roast n
veg.

Petitewinter · 07/07/2025 20:53

Thanks everyone.

He didn't do it on purpose, he isn't mean he just didn't realise and I didn't tell him soon enough.
He actually tried putting most of it back into the bottle so there wasn't as much.
