Calorie-counting

Calories per 100g

Has anyone else noticed a tendency for food packaging to display kcal per 100g rather than per serving or per the packet size?
I had a ready meal tonight that was 177 kcal per 100g, but the service size was 450g so you need to do your own maths to work out your calorie consumption.
I'm sure they used to provide per 100g and per serving figures.

The legal requirement is for food manufacturers to have the nutritional data per 100g/ml. It's meant to make it easier for consumers to compare the data between the options if they are all using the same scale. Most will (where it's applicable) give nutrition per serving in addition to the 100g/ml but it's not mandated and never has been.
