So, I am calorie counting with a 500 defecit.
The nutrient values on items are my bible.
I love the Naked Malaysian curry pots which are shown as 78g. Value boxes show per 100g, or per pot (258g). Calories are 117 or 302 respectively. Which one do I go for???
I find this on a lot of stuff, the weight of the item doesn't correspond with the values provided.

Am I being completely dull, happy to be told I am!

If I put it into nutracheck then the calorie amount comes up as the higher one, per portion. I think 78g must be the dry weight and 258g is what it ends up as once you've added the water. So I would go with 302 calories

@Justme2023123 thank you
Just scanned it in Nutracheck and it's come up different from pot again lol

Hi,

117 cals divided by 100 grams = 1.17 cals per 1 gram.
1.17 x 258 grams pot = 301.86 cals per pot.
They have rounded it up to 302 cals per pot as it's nearer 302 than 301 technically.

Looking on other websites the calories seem to vary slightly for that specific product so stick with looking at the actual packet itself.

78 grams is the dry weight but ignore any calories worked out on any sites for that amount as adding water won't add calories anyway. Just stick with the 'consumption' weight x

I often find that with nutracheck too, things can be a few calories over or under but hopefully it balances out in the end 😁

Thank you all, it's an absolute minefield counting calories.

Still trying to work out what my defecit should be 🤣
