Calorie-counting

How often do you weigh yourself?

I started calorie counting a week ago today! I've lost 1 1/2 pounds. I feel disheartened by this result , only because I'm used to very un healthy 'diets' where I'm used to losing 5-7lbs a week. I need to keep reminding myself slow & steady winds the race!!!

I'm in a calorie deficit of 1500, very strange but for some reason I've struggled to eat 1500 and I've only been eating 1100-1400 (weird for me, I'm a huge binge eater but I haven't had the urge once) so I'm scared incase the days I do 1500 I'll gain.

Although I lost 1 1/2 lbs, 2 people have said it's look like I've lost weight & jeans that wouldn't bottom last week, buttons today, so I highly doubt I've only lost 1 1/2 lbs, I'm confused

I'm not sure if I should continue to weigh myself weekly, I think it will just discourage me.

How often do you all weigh yourself?

I weigh myself most days. Probably not the best idea. But I can't help it.

I'm trying to make better choices. But should probably start calorie counting.

Every day. It's the only thing that keeps me focused.

Daily. That’s how I keep my weight where I want it.

I weigh myself every morning. That can be a bad idea though for people who are prone to developing eating disorders as it can make you very focused on what you’re eating day to day.

Why on earth? 1.5lbs in a week is great and sustainable

Every day, it started when I had cancer, the first time,🙄 and I lost five and half stone in six months. To quote BF she said it was like watching me melt away. It took me eight years to put a stone back on, I am now a healthy weight but I don't want to put anymore weight on as I can't be arsed to go shopping all over again.

Weigh yourself every morning as soon as you wake up after a wee completely naked. Do this every day and then take an average for the week so you can see a true representation of which way the scales are moving

If you weigh yourself one Monday morning and then the following Monday morning, there's so many factors that can affect the scales (water, last nights dinner, how you slept) that doing it once a week just isn't reliable

I have better things to do than waste my time weighing myself. I know I eat healthy, my yearly Dr health check shows I'm fine so that's enough for me

Once or twice a week. During a recent period where I lost a lot of weight I was weighing myself every day, but I don't think that was actually necessary.

Daily and it has really started to affect my mental health so I need to stop. I cannot seem to lose any weight recently so need to focus on something else

I’m about to slit my throat. I’ve been away for a city break for three days. Yes, I had a hotel breakfast each day but not a huge one, just one course and a slice of toast. Afternoon tea with all the works once, a couple of slices of cake on two occasions and as I was in a B&B I bought a M&S sandwich and a little dessert on each of three evenings. I’m five fucking pounds heavier than I was before I went! How the bloody hell can I put on 5lbs over three days?

Easy to put on 5lbs in three days - unfair I know!

And that's why I weigh myself every morning - keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Relax. You've not put on five pounds of fat. It'll be the added food volume, maybe hormones, any number of things. Unless you've eaten 3000 calories a day over your maintenance calories there's no way you e put on that much in fat.

Daily, using an app which gives me a running average.

Daily works if you can learn to follow the fluctuations and ignore them. Some days you’ll be higher, some lower, it’s the average that’s important. The problem with weekly is that you can easily fluctuate 1-3lb in a day, so if you’re losing that on average a week, then if you’ve fluctuated up 3lb on weigh in day it looks like you’ve lost nothing.

Have a look at Sean Casey on Instagram, he talks a lot of sense about this.

Almost every morning. I find it interesting to see how my weight fluctuates throughout the month as I get older. There is still a 2 or 3 lb increase at week 2 but I don't think I ovulate anymore

I wish myself every morning, naked first thing. It's the only way I keep myself from slowly piling on the pounds. I've been the same weight for about 5 years.

Never now. I used to weigh myself every Friday morning but I stopped 2 years ago and haven't touched the scales since. It's so liberating to just eat and exercise mindfully. My weight goes up and down depending on so many factors. I'm over the anxiety and drama that comes with weighing myself routinely and just accept that sometimes my jeans feel a bit too tight but invariably over the course of the month / season it'll even out.

Every single day since 2020.
I lost 3 stone 3 years ago and stalled at bmi 26. I'm starting to make a little slow progress again but without knowing my weight each morning I'd feel a bit powerless.

I intend to do it every day as I have posh scales that do loads of different readings and the app tells me to weigh every day but it's more like 3 or 4 times a week. It doesn't upset me when it fluctuates so I think it's fine to do that.
