Sugar addiction?

As you can probably tell from my username I love all things sugar! My particular habit is having two heaped teaspoons of sugar in my coffees. I drink 3 coffees per day, so 6 sugars. My husband has literally a dash of sugar in his, and can’t understand how I can drink my coffee so sweet. To me it just tastes normal though, like to me it’s the perfect sweetness. Can I ask it is a common thing? Should I be cutting down? I’ve checked on my app and it’s obviously using calories from the sugars, the coffee and a dash of milk is not a large amount but by the time you add this 3 times a day it adds up. I just love my coffee and have tried reducing the sugar and I find it taste horrible. Any tips?

If it’s 6 heaped spoons it’s more likely to be nearer 8 or 9 actual teaspoons.

Women shouldn’t have more than 6 teaspoons (not heaped!) of sugar per day in total so if you are drinking your sugar, and then having more in chocolate, biscuits or jam or whatever, then you run the risk of weight gain and it’s associated health problems I suppose. Not to mention the effect on your teeth.

Could you start by cutting one cup out completely so you are at least saving yourself 2 spoons? I know, it’s not easy, I was drinking 7 cups of coffee per day. I’m now down to two. I never had sugar though. What if you have one spoon and a sweetener maybe? Or have much smaller cups that only need one sugar in?

I have a lot of milk and a heaping tablespoon of honey because I find coffee akin to ashtray nicotine (which I gather is a genetic thing but my dh insists we have coffee together at 3pm).
I would recommend finding a flavored tea product; I’m currently enjoying a chocolate chai, and I also enjoy chocolate tea made from the chocolate husks.

It is the easiest thing to cut if you're after fewer calories - but also the hardest. Just go cold turkey and then after persevering for a week, if you can't stand it, swop to something you don't normally have sugar with?

It’s just so weird that I can’t stand the taste of the sugar has even been reduced the tiniest bit, I will notice. I might just have to quit coffee altogether… so annoying because I would love to be able to just have a bit off sugar so it’s not so bitter. If I force myself for 2 weeks is it possible my taste buds will become used to the decrease?

Do you like coffee syrup in your coffee? I switched to zero sugar coffee syrup

Reduce the sugar gradually. At least sugar is natural. Artificial sweetener is disgusting.

I’ve never tried syrup??? What one do you recommend? 👍

I want to gradually cut the amount down but I just can’t stick to it. Going to try from tomorrow by cutting it down to 2 level spoons rather than heaped. I’ll see how I feel after 1 week.

Maybe you could measure how much sugar you are putting in now by weighing it or pouring two heaped teaspoons into a tablespoon. Do it over a container, but your 2 heaped is probably nearer 4 level. You could try using a smaller teaspoon for the sugar, or using cubes.

I have just seen this, sorry. Bulk on Amazon, caramel flavour. It's zero sugar and its so sweet and nice.

TK Maxx often has various flavours of sugar free syrups, I have a pecan caramel and a hazelnut one.
