Avocados - what's up?

I always hear that they're really high in calories eg 400 calories each. But I just pitted and scooped one an it was only 90g, which is about 150calories.

Is was a standard sized supermarket one.

So am I right or am I missing something and accidentally over eating?

90g based on the information on the back of the avocados I bought is 177 calories. Either way, though, maybe people just mean that it's quite a lot (when you are in the position of counting calories for weight loss) for something that's only going to be a fairly small part of the meal.

All the avocados I have seen in the shops lately are a lot smaller than they used to be. Haven't seen the large, mango sized ones, for ages.

That is exactly why weights matter and measuring things by 1 fruit etc is pointless and misleading for calorie counting.

Florida or California avocados also have different calorie counts per 100g in a lot of data bases, not sure how useful that is to the UK person, as I don't know the difference in them!

The size of the pit varies so much though! And what is a 'medium'? So scooping it out and weighing what you are actually eating us the only real way to know.
Anything I can't weigh I always overestimate.
