Best chip shop choices?!

Having a chippy with friends Sunday night and don't want to cancel it, planning my other meals to accommodate the calories so I can still enjoy it. I'm on 1650 per day. How would you all go about this and what would you go for?

A small portion of chip shop chips is about 1000 calories so...😭

Slimjimtobe · 06/04/2023 18:08

Tough one!
do They serve steamed fish by any chance& skip the chips and have pea or to hell with it and eat all the fish and chips 🍟 yum

Slimjimtobe · 06/04/2023 18:09

Or you could go for the cod and take the batter off ??

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 06/04/2023 18:10

Could you skip the chops, have scampi and peas?

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 06/04/2023 18:10

Chicken and mushroom pukka pie is 460 calories according to MFP so I'd go for one of the pie options without chips. Mushy peas on the side maybe.

ShandaLear · 06/04/2023 18:12

Small fish and chips and only eat half of it. Eat the middle of the fish and leave the ends as they’re mostly just better anyway - and remove as much batter as you want.

TakeMyStrongHand · 06/04/2023 18:15

I have kebab meat and salad. No pitta. I don't think it's too bad.

Fish is really healthy and yes the batter has a few calories but fish and chips is apparently the healthiest takeaway you can have. Just limit the chips and don't over eat. If you do, have 100 calories less per day for the next few days.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/04/2023 18:24

Just enjoy your treat. Don't feel.guilty.

dietcokelime · 06/04/2023 18:36

I would during the week try and hit 1550 calories a day and "bank" the extra 100 towards the chippy tea. Then you can have an extra 600 for the chips!

GrisleyR · 06/04/2023 18:43

Just bloody enjoy a small fish and chips.

Do we really have to live a miserable life in pursuit of a size 6 body????

Just cut down on crap over the next few days, but enjoy your life, don't spend the next 20 years in misery. Just be sensible 😊

Bakinhappy · 06/04/2023 18:52

I've been calorie counting for the last 3 months. I've lost a fair bit of weight and I do as PP said - kebab meat and salad, leave the wrap. Its still really filling.

HappyHolidai · 06/04/2023 18:53

Fish but no chips. The batter provides plenty of "solidity".

Nobody mentioned a size 6 body! 🤣

If I was being miserable I wouldn't be going at all.

Sorry OP, my comments weren't picking on you, honestly😁

It's the responses that frustrate me!

benten54 · 07/04/2023 06:52

Skip lunch and have the fish and chips. Easy

Gloria1982 · 07/04/2023 15:03

Just need to find balance where you can. If I want to balance out a treat I’ll add exercise.

AuntMarch · 08/04/2023 15:32

Seeing as this is a pre-planned meal with friends (not an every other day situation), I would just have what I actually wanted.

I would rather go over calories and enjoy it, than pick something else I don't really want that still won't leave me many calories for the rest of the day anyway. Sensible choices the rest of the day and being within allowance the rest of the week and it'll be fine, one meal can't do much damage on it's own.

glovepillow22 · 10/04/2023 11:10

Thanks everyone. I factored in 1000kcals for a small fish supper and bloody enjoyed it!

Glad to hear it!

whatsyourpoison12 · 10/04/2023 12:10

would go for unbattered saveloy, pickled egg and mushy peas
