Noom but putting ON weight

I’ve been doing Noom since I put on a stone over lockdown and friends have had good results with it.
I’m 5’5 and now weigh 64kg, usually I am 58kg. I can’t fit into most of my old clothes, I know I’m not overweight but this is bigger than I am comfortable being, and the biggest I have been in 15 years.

I’ve been limiting my calories to even less than Noom allows, around 1000 per day. I have a very active job on my feet all day. Every day the scales are just inching up. I’m 36.

This is getting me down and I don’t really understand what I’m doing wrong. Maybe fasting days? It’s just crazy to me as I am so active anyway and calorie intake is tiny.

😢

@MrsTerryPratchett I'd bet she's not eating only 1000 calories, as I said.

Honestly I didn't like noom. It takes longer than 10 days for a difference to show too, and depends on your age, height and starting weight.

I'm 37, do yoga 5 days a week but otherwise work from home, and to maintain 9st10 I need to stay under 1300 a day.

If I have a weekend involving a bottle of wine and a take away I always go up 2-3lbs.

I'd love to be 9st but I'd have to give up more calories which I'm not willing to do.

Age is such a big factor. 15 years ago I lived on fags, ginsters pasties and pints of Amstel and weighed 8st5. Those days are gone sadly. My older body will only cooperate with maintaining a certain weight if I stay under certain calories.

Get your bloods done. Track your period, this can affect weight loss massively.
Check your sleep habits.
Track everything religiously. It’s possibly because your tracking is off. Weigh everything.

Are you using it properly?
I use Noom and you need to make sure you are eating from the 3 food groups, red yellow and green. I don’t think they would set you 1000 calories you have manually adjusted it. What did Noom set you?

Also make sure you are using the food calculator correctly ie portion sizes as you could be eating more than 1000 but using an incorrectly calculated amount. Are you eating mostly red and yellow groups?

10 days isn’t long, Noom is mean to be a slow drop off over a few months and changing your mindset

I was in the same position as you with noom. Waste of money for me. I've lost 2 stone by following 5:2. I've put the weight back on since having a baby but once I finish BF, I'll be back doing the 5:2

I dont understand what you're saying, you are saying you have put on 6kg in 10 days while eating 1000 cals a day?

Or are you saying you have put on weight to the degree of 6kg but having started your new diet 10 days ago you havent lost any weight?

10 days is fairly quick and water can easily hide some weight loss

There is no way on earth that you are building muscle a) in a calorie deficit or b) in 10 days

Also, you have to weigh and measure EVERYTHING to accurately calculate calories, dont even trust what the packaging says it weighs. Weigh pasta and rice as dry goods, then cook them. Make sure you examine every entry you find as some people dont put them in right.

Finally, people do not put on weight by eating too little, there is no such thing as starvation mode, otherwise people wouldnt starve to death.

Where are the food psychology bits? I've been doing, it but they just keeping banging on about having grapes instead of raisins. I've never eaten raisins !

I liked on the ad, the the don't drink this latte coffee have half a sandwich instead, but it's nowhere to be seen. Plus I had to get my phone fixed and now my app has lost all my progress 😖

I think guessing calories is impossible to be honest.

No snacks works better for me and no extras at meals ( like Naan bread, crisps or garlic bread) I went to McDonalds this week and had a salad ( although I'm sure the chicken in it was fried) whilst the Dc enjoyed a happy meal each as a change. It's hard though, really hard, so much temptation, especially when sleep deprived or a bit bored needing to muster energy and motivation to clean the house.

Just putting it out there. It’s not totally ridiculous to say 1000 calories is not enough.

If you eat too little your body reacts by slowing your metabolism right down and will conserve as much fat as possible. There’s a balance here - enough deficit to lose a slow and steady amount of weight but also enough calories your body doesn’t go in to starvation mode or slow right down. That’s why 1200 calories is often suggested for weight loss.

Just a thought and I’m not saying this is definitely the case for you but worth thinking about.

Good luck and I hope you get the results you’re looking for soon ☺️
