I’ve got a lot of weight to shed- 5 stone (even then I’ll be overweight)

Tried slimming world hated it
Tried Keto hated it
Tried WW hated it

3 days on calories and so far so good! Aiming to eat 1,500-1,700 a day (I’m big so need more calories at the moment)

Anyone had any success stories from good old fashioned calorie counting to keep me inspired?

I lost 2 stone over the first lockdown and have kept it off since. It's a great way to live. Nothing is off limits, you can be flexible. It's sustainable IMO. Best of luck.

Six years ago I lost 14.4kg through calorie counting over seven months, no exercise beyond a 15 minute walk twice a day for the school run. I've maintained roughly the same weight ever since, although I am now 3kg lighter than when I stopped calorie counting religiously. I still weigh myself a couple of times a month to keep things in check, but I still apply the same lessons learned about high protein meals and portion size (I still weigh out my carbs for example), and I run now which all make maintaining easy.

Since starting calorie counting again in April 2020, I've lost 3.5 stone and maintained that loss as well. The difference this time was that I also monitored my carbs (100g/day) and my sugar (30g/day) intake. I run twice a week and I do Nordic walking once a week. I also calculated my TDEE at my heaviest and took off 500 cals from that figure. I've stuck to that amount ever since and I don't 'eat back' the cals used on exercise. I finally feel I've worked out what works for me after spending all my adult life overweight. Wishing you lots of luck @Bibbitybobbityboo86 Smile

I started calorie counting in august last year and as of this morning I'm 4 stone 2lbs down. I have another 5lbs to go and hoping to do this in feb then moving into maintenance.
I would say it's about forming healthy habits that you can carry through with you into maintenance - rather than another diet.
Track everything to start off with - weigh everything and be honest about what goes into your mouth. This will help you to understand how much you actually eat and what that looks like from a calorie perspective. It's changed my life and I will absolutely live like this going forward. Good luck

I’ve been calorie counting since New Year’s Day - I’ve lost half a stone so far. Slow and steady as I’m not allowing myself to go hungry. I think calorie counting is brilliant, some days I don’t have much appetite so only manage around 1300 calories but the next day I might fancy chocolate on an evening so it all balances out. Nothing is off limits.

I have started back on MFP this week after avoiding the scales for a record 2.5 years (bad I know). Gone up a clothes size in lockdown and noticed these last few weeks that clothes size around my tummy is getting very tight. I used to be big boobed and hipped as a curvy hourglass not sure if it’s my record high weight or since turning 40 but calculated my hip to waist ratio and defo an apple now and need to shift some weight from my middle (as well as everywhere else!) Lost over 2 stone with MFP in the past depressing looking back at numbers 3 stone 10lbs heavier than my lowest weight on there (with plenty more to lose). Tried WW & SW but find MFP easier just need to keep myself accountable - could do with a weekly weigh in front of someone to keep me determined that’s the only thing
