Calorie counting for big loss

I have a lot of weight to loose... Think 8st+

I am begrudge to pay memberships to slimming groups, online "gangs" etc. So do you lot think it is doable to loose such a large amount with CC alone? Or do I need to be joining a group/scheme to help me?

I fully understand that as more weight drops off I will need to increase my exercise and reduce the amount of calories I consume (and of course my own motivation is essential).

Have you lost a lot on CC? Want to share any tips?

You could do it yourself, just keep checking your tdee and reduce the amount by 20% to get your calorie target for weight loss.

Weigh and log everything on My Fitness Pal. Every mouthful and be very accurate. Don’t log exercise as it overestimates calories burned and gives you extra to eat back which will stall your weight loss. Once you get to target you can adjust your calories back to your maintenance calories on your tdee.

Yup. You can do it yourself as pp said.

Make sure you eat good food. Gooc for your body and freaking tasty good for your mind.
Herbs, spices, herbs, spices! Have fun with your food. Don't think about stuff as "deprivation".
Eg. I switch half of spaghetti for courgette. I am not depriving myself of pasta. I am adding lovely courgette😁
Positive attitude makes wonders.

Also, with this weight to lose, make sure you are learning bit more about food, portion sizes and build good habits so you don't just go back to what caused that ectra weight.

If you are enjoying your food, it just makes such a big difference. Such a big difference.

Good luck!

I never thought I’d be able to do CC but here I am over a stone down since January, and believe me there have been treats galore in that time. I highly recommend: eating as many cals as you can while still losing weight (it’ll be higher than you think); making sure some of those cals go on fruit and veg; going for daily walks (doesn’t have to be far and I do mine with an audiobook).
I have done SW before. This is a million times better.

I've lost weight in the past via a club (WW) and started calorie counting 8 weeks ago with MFP as well as going on walks most days.
It's working. I set a very modest goal for myself initially, 5% and having just passed that, am aiming for up to 10% before I will pause for a while and go on maintenance calories. WW set my goal in the past so I felt I had less control over the process. Plus the lack of fees doesn't hurt. I'm now only sorry that I procrastinated so long about what would be the 'best' approach. You may as well just get started.
