Period weight gain :(

I have stuck rigidly to my 1550 calorie count for the past four weeks. I’ve exercised an hour+ every day (approx 300-500calories) even when I haven’t felt like it.

So I stupidly weighed myself today and I’m 6lb up. I’ve eaten no junk food( well one small packet of crisps yesterday first in a month) - is it normal to put on so much weight when it’s your period? Is that BAME back to the start or can I expect it to return to what it was pre-period?

I’m doubled over in pain, ignoring my hormonal carb cravings and wondering what’s the point? Should I just eat the digestives everyone is diving into and give up or will this all disappear in a few days?

Me not BAME. (That’s my work autocorrect)

i get the same, it drops off by the end of my period

Yes just water weight! I only weigh myself monthly now, just after period, as I find I put weight on during ovulation too. Don't worry op.

sociallydistained · 03/03/2021 20:16

Yes I only lose weight twice a month 🙄

alpenguin · 03/03/2021 20:21

Thank you! I’d only lost 7lb so to have gained 6 again in the space of a couple of days was soul destroying.

As if periods aren’t bastard enough without this 😫

Does it all go again if I keep exercising and resist the comfort food or just a few pounds? I’ve never tried doing this before.

It's likely just water retention, I never weigh just before my period, wait until after, you should hopefully notice a larger drop. I usually drop 1.5lb a week, maintain during my period (or even put on) then the following week I've lost 3.5lb ish.

Yes, I know that if I can maintain during my period, then I'm usually good for a decent loss the following week.

@alpenguin it's really disheartening, I prefer to weigh monthly for this reason!

This is exactly what happened to me. Dropped 3.5lb the day my period arrived just like that.

I fluctuate around half a stone or more at my period 🙄 can't believe how much difference it makes - never affected me til I hit about 30 now I put a hair bobble on my jeans button hole to accommodate the period bulk up.

ohhhhitsme · 07/03/2021 08:39

Have you weighed yourself since? How did you get on?

CantGetNoSleep73 · 07/03/2021 08:45

This happens to me - so annoying! I can be a full 7lbs heavier. The scales are not my friend and actually made me so depressed I didn't want to carry on trying to lose weight. I now measure myself and see the cm/inch difference. This is a much better reflection of my journey for me.

I also find because I exercise most days that despite what I eat the weight loss is very slow...
However if I don't exercise my mental health goes awry
