Apple Watch and calories

It feels so hard to burn lots of calories!
I set my goal for 450 a day. I have an office job so not very active for the most part. But do tend to do 3-4 20 minute hiit workouts a week. Usually on the days I do those my watch tells me I burn about 480 Cala.
During the workout itself I give it everything and they're really tough but I only burn around 120-150 calories.

I was really surprised when I wore it for a 35 minute walk the other day and it said I burnt 147 calories but that felt much more enjoyable and a lot less work than the hiit workout! Does it sound right? Wondering why I am bothering doing the hard workouts if I can burn the same just walking

With walking, it does depend how fast and whether or not it's flat, and also how heavy you are. There's some figures here you can use to see if it tallies with your watch. Up to a point it's simple physics - moving your own mass over a distance /raising it against gravity. The watch ought to do pretty well as it's got gps data.

Not sure how the calibration works for the HIIT, whether it uses heart rate or what. I think it overestimated my calories and movement when I'm doing Pilates. I'd have thought these types of exercise would be harder for it to estimate accurately versus ones which involve real distance travelled.

If you’re looking for larger calorie burn try their dancing workouts.

I did expect their HIIT to burn more but then I am restricted by a small living room so my moves are smaller and the rug takes a lot of the impact so I’m not ‘bouncing’ as much as if I were in an exercise studio.

I’d love a longer than 20min workout- even just 30mins.
