What am I missing with MFP?

As far as I can see it’s not that user friendly?

Half the stuff I’m typing in I can’t find the exact thing I want or it only has awkward measurements of it so I’m having to change things to a 1g serving and having X number of servings. Sometimes it’s only cups etc and the meal bit seems a faff too.

Do I need to upgrade?

I previously used and loved Nutracheck but changed to MFP to pair it with my Garmin. I’m not sure it’s worth it.

It's pretty user friendly. You can usually toggle for different serving sizes. It is dependent on someone having entered that thing, or you being flexible and choosing something similar/near enough. Well that's what I do anyway.

Can you add foods yourself rather than choosing from the list?

I don’t want to be too lax about quantities and end up underestimating calories.

What sort of stuff are you looking for?

You can scan the barcode of most things and it will give the serving size.

I find it brilliant but it does take a bit to get used to it initially. Once you've entered a food or measurement once MFP will remember this and automatically default to this measurement the next time you enter it. So it takes a bit of time for the first few days weighing everything and inputting weights.

Yesterday I weighed the amount of soup I had but the app seemed to just have cups or full cans.
There didn’t seem to be the option to add grams of Heinz Tomato Soup but maybe I just missed it.

@consideryourselfathome no you're right. I checked it. You just need to add 1/2 a can or full can. Really just as near to your quantity as you can get. It's worth sticking with a it makes you so mindful of the calories you eat.

Thank you!

Have given up and gone back to Nutracheck. Just can’t get to grips with MFP at all and I’m not planning to eat back exercise calories so it’s probably not necessary to have them linked.

I don't add my exercise calories at all on MFP. You don't have to link them.
