500 Calories A Day

Starting today...
Anyone on VLCD shed some light on how you are getting on and which diet plan you're following? Years ago I have done this and lost a lot of weight. Managed to gain it all back after 4-5 years thanks to being married!!
One meal a day.....most likely chicken and veg and that will be it. Not a long term solution I realise but to kickstart this and then going back to TTC....

Yeah don't do 500kcal a day. It's really unhealthy. There are more things to consider than just the weight loss

Desmondo2016 · 17/04/2020 21:33

Plus it's not sustainable so you need to address the issues that led to the weight going on rather than doing a crash diet and then yoyoing back up again

500 calories a day is dangerous and counter productive. You put your body into starvation mode and that lowers your BMR. Your body also starts cannibalising itself and you will have muscle wastage/atrophy going on with the fat loss. Your heart is all muscle- do it too long or try and do high intensity exercise while on this starvation diet and you risk a heart attack.
BMR is your base metabolic rate, commonly called metabolism. Once you lower it you will then gain weight too much on a regular diet that now you could eat and not gain weight. So you get the yo yo effect.
Being married or not has no effect on weight.

Guidelines have recently changed and the lowest recommended is now 800 kcals. What about something like exante? Will be almost as fast at 500 kcals plus you’ll get all your recommended daily vitamins/minerals from the packs.

800 kcals a day not good for you in the short time fine and certainly better than health issues from excess weight. Good luck!

If you want to ttc then you need to be healthy. 500 calories a day isn’t

I’ve tried every diet going and VLCD make me irritable and I end up binging.
Being at home more has meant I am listening to what my body wants more. I am eating 3 good meals a day with a protein, a carb and a veg in it, if I have a workout I have a snack that day too- it’s working better than the low carb/ low fat/ low food ones ever have.

I tried 500 a day once, and after 3-4 days got so desperately hungry and weak I cracked and ate all the unhealthy snacks in sight. I was so starving I just needed to eat.

I'm doing 1200 a day now, and yes I get hungry, but it's not a desperate starving hunger and I find it easier to sustain. Some people might be able to go a bit lower than 1200, but 500 is far too little.

Try New You Plan. 800 calories a day total food replacement. Soups, shakes, meals and bars plus snacks.

CodenameVillanelle · 21/08/2020 07:12

Why would you do this, when you can cut calories to a realistic and healthy level and lose weight? What is the point?

OneFiveFour · 25/09/2020 14:23

Honestly, 500 cals a day sounds like a great way to find yourself 20 lbs heavier in six months' time. And probably sicker.

Diet sensibly and aim for a lifestyle change.
