What am I doing wrong?

I have started eating really well this week. I have lost weight before so know kind of what I am doing. I am using my fitness pal to keep track of my calories. The problem is that I lost loads of water weight the first day and now seem to be putting it on. I know I shouldn't weigh every day and I have only been doing it a week but I am only eating about 1200 calories a day (my fitness pal 'gave' me 1500) and I am not losing much. I started at 14st 9.75lbs went down to 14st 1.5lbs and am now back to 14.5. I don't want to give up but I do struggle with keeping going if I don't make progress. Help!

are you counting everything, i.e. the milk in your tea?

andannabegins · 08/09/2019 10:50

I have cut out milk in tea and coffee completely. I am trying to cut down on dairy as I have a gall stone and I am trying to stop eating things that may trigger it

Yy to are you counting everything? Oil in pan?

Are you weighing everything?

Any rookie errors like weight cooked when you should be weighing uncooked or vice versa?

Are you coming up to your period?

RandomMess · 08/09/2019 10:54

Stop weighing yourself every day!!

You should be aiming to lose 1-2lbs per week...

lornathewizzard · 08/09/2019 10:57

Wait so you've lost nearly 5 lbs in a week and you think that's not good enough?? Stop weighing every day and stop expecting miracles. Go easy

galvantula · 08/09/2019 10:59

Your weight will just fluctuate a bit, but if you keep at it you should see a downward trend. One week isn't a long time :)

I've been back on MFP for a month and a bit, I'll try and take a screenshot of my months variation! My weight went up before it went down at all...

On another thread there was a link to a video about how much a woman's weight fluctuates throughout the month, it was v interesting.

You've lost 5lb in a week. That's a bit on the high side. Don't become obsessed about weighing yourself every day. Once a week is enough. Aim for 3lb a week or a stone a month. By Christmas you'll be down to 11 stone!

Chitarra · 08/09/2019 11:14

5lb in a week is loads! Honestly I don't understand why you're upset!

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 08/09/2019 11:58

Sorry i missed that 5lb loss. Hmmmm.... are your scales not flat on the floor and are you weighing yourself naked at the same time of the day

fishonabicycle · 16/09/2019 15:49

For god's sake - it's only a week. Be consistent for a month and see how it's going. Weight loss is not linear.

CalmFizz · 11/10/2019 09:10

Are you weighing first thing in the morning each time? I can fluctuate 4/5lbs in a day depending on what I’ve eaten/wearing etc.

Read The Diet Myth by Tim Spector - there’s an awful lot more going on in there than just calories in = calories out
